摘要： This tube sock includes a cushioned sole formed by partial courses of terry loops on the inner surface of at least that part of the foot portion adapted to underlie the sole of a wearer's foot while that part of the foot portion adapted to overlie the instep of the wearer's foot is devoid of terry loops. Indicia means is provided on the outer surface of the foot portion for indicating the proper manner in which the tube sock should be worn to position the terry loops beneath the sole of the wearer's foot. The indicia means may take the form of an identifying yarn contrasting in color with the color of the body yarn of the sock and knit in plated relationship with the body yarn to appear on the outer surface of the sock in spaced-apart coursewise extending stripes which extend from one side to the other of the sole portion.

The spaced apart single courses of spandex yarn in the cuff are knit with the spandex yarn under sufficient tension that the stitch loops straighten out and form spaced apart inwardly extending ribs on the inner surface of the cuff to aid in supporting the upper end of the stocking on the leg of the wearer.

摘要： A full length stocking of knitted fabric including elastomeric yarn which in the boot portion exerts a compressive effect on the wearer''s leg normally gradually decreasing from the ankle to a point well above the knee, that improvement wherein, in the knee area, the compressive effect is reduced to provide an area of reduced but still substantial pressure support in the zone including the knee to a level of pressure, preferably, of less than about 10 mm of mercury and less than the pressure below the knee area, preferably 20 to 80 percent thereof, so that a reduced pressure is exerted on the knee area to avoid restricting pressures on the veins in the sensitive popliteal space, the compressive pressure being increased again above the knee area and thereafter gradually being decreased to the top of the stocking boot. The stocking may be circularly knit, fullfashioned knit, or cut and sewn from a variety of fabrics including powernet, jersey knit with elastomeric inlay, jersey knit with alternating courses of knit and float elastomeric yarn, and all jersey knit with alternating courses of elastomeric yarn. Optional features include an automatic toe-inspection welt, a garter type top and a thigh enlarging insert.

摘要： Three yarns are knit in plated relationship throughout the major portion of at least the leg of the sock with the first of the yarns being positioned predominantly on the outside, the third of the yarns being positioned predominantly on the inside and the second of the yarns being normally positioned between the first and third yarns but appearing on the outer surface of the sock in portions of irregularly spaced stitch loops to provide a variegated pattern resembling denim. The second yarn is of a different color than the first yarn and is approximately one and one-half times as large as the first yarn while the third yarn is approximately twice as large as the second yarn. The tension and feeding positions of the three yarns are controlled to maintain the three yarns in plated relationship with the first yarn on top of the second yarn but the relatively thin or smaller first yarn will not always stay on top of the larger second yarn so that the second yarn is irregularly exposed as it moves from one side to the other of the smaller first yarn to produce the variegated pattern resembling denim.

A garment eg. stocking, girdle, knee guard, comprises a tubular knit portion having at least three yarns, namely a plain knit yarn, a knit-float yarn, and an inlaid elastic yarn. In one example the first and third courses of a repeat are knit plain of an inelastic yarn, while the intervening knit-float course is of elastic or inelastic yarn. The elastic yarn is inlaid in one of the plain courses. In two further examples having only one plain course, the inlaid elastic yarn might be in either course. The elastic yarn may be cored Spandex, and the inelastic yarns of cotton, rayon, nylon, polypropylene or polyester. Examples specifying various deniers are given. Patterning for knit, tuck, float may be utilized at alternate feeds.

摘要： A stocking tube, Figs. 7 and 9 (not shown), is knitted by continuous rotary knitting on a circular machine and has constricted portions k, g, which are positioned beneath the welt at the back of the leg and to embrace the portion which is to form the heel so that the adjacent circumferential portions n, p, are of a comparatively looser construction which is enabled to stretch when tension is applied to the fabric as by the wearer flexing the knee whereby the portion n readily stretches to relieve the tension imposed on the fabric, or when the tube is placed on a former for boarding whereby the portion p stretches to enable the tube to conform to the shape of the former. The tube is produced on a two feed machine in which the yarns are separately knitted in alternate courses in the unrestricted portion n, p, and are also knitted separately in alternate courses in alternate wales C, E in the restricted portions, k, p. In the intervening wales B, D the yarns are knitted together as illustrated in Fig. 10 (not shown). To enable the fabric to be produced the needles knitting the unrestricted area have long butts and those knitting the restricted areas have medium and short butts. The stitch cam at the main feeder is withdrawable such that the short butt needles are only partially lowered without knitting at that feeder to produce the wales B and D. To assist the loop formation alternate sinkers in the needle sector having medium and short butts are projected further than usual inwardly to cause the yarn to be drawn over their nebs and ensuring extra lengths of yarns at the main feeder.
