    • A combustible product of various shapes and compositions efficiently and conveniently supplies heat, such as for outdoor cooking. The product includes a hollow cone of combustible material defining a substantially cone-shaped exterior, a substantially cone-shaped interior space, a large opening in the base of the cone and a small opening in the top of the cone creating a flue to facilitate ignition of the product and to allow individual products to be stacked upon each other for larger heating requirements or for efficient storage before use. The product may be a single integral piece of combustible material, a plurality of combustible pieces secured to each other to form the cone shape, or a plurality of combustible pieces arranged into a cone shape through means of combustible packaging.

    • A water-proof ignitor charcoal briquette, and the method of manufacture thereof, composed of charcoal and other charred or carbon fuel in powder form, homogeneously mixed with pulp powder impregnated in a solution of nitre such as potassium nitrate, sodium nitrate, potassium permanganate, excluding ammonium nitrate, so as to be capable of sustaining a long-run combustion, is compressed into individual units of various shapes using such combustible binder as resin and other known binders, and is further overcoated with such combustible solutions as resin and other known water-proof and easily ignitable solutions in order to be moisture proof as well as clean handling and at the same time to be readily ignited by a safety match or a cigarette lighter.

    • A method is provided of protecting trees in orchards and other vegetation, including blossoms, fruits, limbs and stems thereof from cold and frost for relatively short critical periods of time usually extending from about three to about five hours between about midnight and dawn, which comprises (1) igniting a series of relatively small closely spaced, high-intensity radiation combustible heating units which glow and are substantially flameless, whereby the units may be placed in close proximity or immediately adjacent to said trees and vegetation sufficient to raise the temperature thereof without destructive overheating of the same, in which the units comprise an easily ignitable and quick heat-release first combustible portion so directed in use that the heat emissions therefrom will directly affect said vegetation such as to rapidly raise the temperature thereof to above the danger point, said first portion being capable of continuing to burn for a substantial initial part of said critical period; (2) continuing to supply radiant heat by said units for the remainder of said critical period by means of a second combustible portion comprising closely spaced solids having an ignition temperature above about 2000*F. which provide substantial quantities of radiant heat, and which are arranged immediately adjacent said first combustible portion and are ignited thereby; and (3) continuing to furnish the said heat by said glowing radiant-heat producing solid without the aid of the first combustible portion following a substantial initial burning period, thereby to collectively produce the desired temperature of said vegetation continuously throughout the duration of the entire critical period. The invention also encompasses the abovedescribed combustible heating units.
