摘要： There is disclosed a process for producing a styrenic polymer or copolymer each having syndiotactic configuration which comprises polymerizing a styrenic monomer represented by the general formula (I) ##STR1## such as phenylstyrene and trimethylsilylstyrene, or copolymerizing at least two styrenic monomers of the formula (I) or at least one styrenic monomer of the formula (I) with at least one styrenic monomer other than the styrenic monomer of the formula (I) in the presence of a catalyst comprising as principal ingredients(A) a transition metal compound derived from a group IVB metal of the Periodic Table such as pentamethylcyclopentadienyltrimethyltitanium and (B) a compound producing an ionic complex by the reaction with the above transition metal compound such as tri(n-butyl)ammonium tetra(pentafluorophenyl)borate. The aforementioned process enables efficient production of a styrenic polymer or copolymer excellent in heat resistance and mechanical strength.

摘要： Certain ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable monomers having a reactive carboxy group are useful for preparing homo- and copolymers for a variety of uses, including diagnostic assays. The polymers can be supplied as latex particles in aqueous compositions. The monomers are represented by the structure: ##STR1## wherein: R is hydrogen, halo or alkyl or 1 to 3 carbon atoms,M is hydrogen, an alkali metal ion or an ammonium ion, andL is a linking group having from 8 to 50 atoms in its linking chain, and comprises two or more divalent hydrocarbon groups connected or terminated with one or more nitrogen, oxygen or sulfur atoms, or with one or more groups containing such atoms in the linking chain, provided L has at least one arylene which is not directly connected to the terminal ##STR2## and further provided that none of the hydrocarbon groups has non-aromatic unsaturation.

摘要： Monoethylenically unsaturated derivatives of substituted benzophenones or acetophenones which are prepared by reaction of such a benzophenone or acetophenone with a vinyl benzyl halide, such as the chloride, are polymerizable to form homopolymers or copolymers e.g. with a wide variety of conventional ethylenically unsaturated monomers, especially monoethylenically unsaturated vinyl or vinylidene monomers. The resulting polymers are sensitive to radiation, such as ultraviolet light, e.g. having a wave length of 2,000 to 5,000 angstroms, and readily cross-link or cure upon exposure to such radiation. Adhesives, binders, coatings, and impregnating compositions are made from the polymers.
