    • A remote control apparatus for a vehicle rearview mirror including a control device disposed inside the vehicle and connected, by way of two transmission cables, to a mirror actuating device disposed inside the rearview mirror housing, on the exterior of the vehicle. The control device has a support member in which two transmission members are mounted for sliding in parallel and a control member pivotally and rotatably mounted to the support member. Each of the transmission members are connected to a transmission cable. One of the transmission members has a slot located in a place perpendicular to its sliding axis, in which slot is engaged one end of the control lever. The other of the transmission members has a slot inclined relative to the plane perpendicular to the sliding axis. A pin extends from the control member in a direction perpendicular to the one end thereof and engages the slot in the other transmission member. The actuating device includes a mirror housing, a crosspiece pivotally mounted to the mirror housing, a mirror pivotally mounted to the crosspiece, and the free end of one of the transmission cables interconnected with the crosspiece such as to pivot the mirror in one coordinate direction. The actuation device also includes a lever pivotally interconnected with the mirror housing, hingedly interconnected with the mirror, and fixedly interconnected with the free end of the other transmission cable to pivot the mirror in the other coordinate direction.

    • A remote control device is disclosed for use particularly in controlling the operation of a rear-view mirror mounted exteriorly of an automotive vehicle. The device includes a compression spring to pre-tension a plurality of flexible operating wires contained in sheaths and interconnecting the control device with the rear-view mirror, the spring is interposed between a cylindrical casing having a control element and a supporting joint member supporting the wires, the joint member being movable axially along a guide pin under the influence of the spring, while the control element is universally pivotable but is held stationary in the axial direction. The supporting joint member has three equidistantly spaced guide surfaces having portions for clamping the wire sheaths, said portions corresponding in position to respective apexes of an equilateral triangle defined about the axis of the guide pin.

    • A remotely controlled rearview mirror assembly has a tiltable reflective member mounted on a fixed base in a casing, the reflective member being tilted by means of a remote control. Two or three-wire cable systems are the preferred linkage but electrical or fluidic linkages may be used. The reflective member is anchored to the base by a forked member to prevent rotation of the reflective member, in its own plane, which would otherwise cause jamming or juddering by contact with the sides of the casing. The preferred forked member is a V-shaped wire strut with arms pivotally attached to the reflective member and a necked junction part as a frictional pivot to provide damping. The reflective member is tiltably mounted by an arcuate knife edge received in a linear groove, the included angle of the groove being greater than that of the knife edge. This provides a substantially common elevational and azimuthal pivot point closer to the surface of the reflective member.

    • A rear view mirror for a motor vehicle of the kind having a stationary housing relative to which the reflective element is adjustable to give the required rear view has a housing which is moulded in self-skinning foam plastics. The housing has resilient pillars which bear on the back of the reflective element near its periphery. The pillars extend from the part of the housing behind the reflective element. Vibration of the reflective element is damped by contact with the resilient material of the housing and the reflective element is kept in its adjusted position. This is very useful when the reflective element is adjustable by remote control.

    • A remote control mirror comprising a mirror support, a base, a trunnion, interengaging means between the trunnion and the base limiting the pivotal movement of the trunnion with respect to the base in a single plane about a first axis, and interengaging means between the trunnion and mirror support limiting the pivotal movement of the mirror support about a second axis at a right angle to the first axis. The interengaging means between the base and the trunnion comprises spaced angularly related surfaces on the base engaged by spaced arcuate surfaces on the trunnion. The mirror construction further includes cable means acting on the mirror support for selectively moving said mirror support into any desired position by the combined pivotal movement about each of the axes.
