    • A method of disposing of toxic (e.g. radioactive) wastes, and related waste containment facilities, allow local long term containment of wastes in a cost-effective manner, while controlling to innocuous levels the release of contaminants. A cavity is provided in the ground below the level of the groundwater table, and a continuous pervious zone of natural, durable material is disposed about the interior of the cavity. A filter zone of natural, durable material is disposed within the pervious zone, and has materials of a grain size and gradation common to conventional graded filter materials. A waste disposal zone is provided within the filter zone, the disposal zone for receiving waste deposits, and a cover is placed over the cavity. The cover is a continuation of the filter zone, and the pervious zone over the cavity, and beneath the level of groundwater table, so that the groundwater level reinstates over the deposited waste.

    • A plurality of ramp planks of a predetermined thickness are stackable on a frame, to determine the height of the ramp. Each successive plank, in the upper direction, is shorter than the one below it. The number of planks utilized determines the height of elevation of the wheel. The degree that a vehicle is off level is measured by an inclinometer carried by the vehicle. The reading on the inclinometer tells the user the number of ramp planks he should use so that when a low side wheel of the vehicle is driven up onto the ramp, the vehicle will be substantially level. Indicia is provided on the ramp planks corresponding to indicia on the inclinometer.

    • Apparatus for lifting a reel from a supporting surface with the reel having centrally disposed axles projecting laterally from opposite sides. Upwardly inclined guide rails are supported in spaced, parallel relation with the upper surfaces of lower portions thereof engaging the under surfaces of the axles while the reel is supported on the supporting surface. A flexible member is connected to each axle and extends toward the upper portion of the adjacent guide rail. Drive means is connected to and pulls the flexible members and the axles connected thereto upwardly along the guide rails toward upper portions thereof to lift and support the reel above the supporting surface.

    • A vehicle ramp including a supporting stand section having a generally horizontal supporting surface to support a wheel of a vehicle, and an inclined ramp section which is removably connected to the supporting section. To prevent accidental tilting of the stand section with respect to the inclined ramp section during certain conditions of vehicle movement on the inclined ramp, a connecting rod is attached between the two sections. One end of the rod is connected for pivotal movement within an opening in the ramp section, while the opposite end of the rod is provided with an enlarged head which is received within a keyhole-shaped opening in the stand section. The stand section and the ramp section are fabricated from interlocking stampings and can be readily assembled and disassembled by the user.

    • A wheel ramp which is formed with rigid, longitudinally extending side frames interconnected by separate, transversely extending treads and transversely extending feet, both of which are attached to the side frames by self-tapping screws. A cross bracing plate is bolted to forward ends of the side frames for additional support, and a stop member formed integrally therewith extends upwardly over the forward end of the ramp and has wheel engaging portions disposed rearwardly of the forward end of the ramp. The transverse spacing between the side frames is such that the loads imposed on the ramp are for the most part borne directly by the side frames, with very little bending moments being applied to the treads. To improve the stability of the ramp, the transversely extending feet extend outwardly beyond the side frames to prevent tipping in this direction and the disposition of the wheel engaging portion of the stop member rearwardly of the front of the ramp prevents kicking up of the ramp as a vehicle is driven up on it. In this disclosure ''''front'''' or ''''forward'''' are used in the context of the front wheels of an automobile being supported by the ramps. The ramps are equally useful in supporting the rear wheels with the automobile being backed onto them. The main load resisting components of the rigid side frames are formed of tubular construction and not only provide greatly improved load capacity, but facilitate attachment of the treads and the cross bracing plate to the side frames. All subassemblies and other components are substantially flat or planar for compact packaging for sale.
