    • A container bag i.e. a flexible intermediate bulk container or FIBC (10) comprising a body of flexible material having lifting loops (18) across the corners thereof and baffles (22) to maintain a square configuration is characterized in that a liner (28) is provided sealed to the baffles (22). In accordance with the present invention baffles (22) are positioned within the liner (28) and are sealed to it before the liner (28) is affixed to the FIBC. In this manner, an FIBC can be produced which has both baffles giving it a square configuration and a liner to prevent ingress of moisture and air. The liner taking on the "square" configuration imparts it to the FIBC as a whole. The baffles may protrude from the liner and be attached to the FIBC walls, or they may be wholly within the liner. In either case, the liner (28) will preferably be impervious to air and moisture and may be formed from a polyolefin sheet material.

    • The present invention discloses a construction for flexible intermediate bulk containers which provides additional strength along the upper periphery, to preclude the tearing out of the material when a loaded container is lifted by a single lifting loop. By folding the upper portion of the container over upon itself, two layers of material are provided along the upper periphery, effectively doubling the strength of that portion of the container to which the lifting loops are attached. The second layer of material is extended downwardly along the side of the container at least a distance equal to the length of the lifting loop legs to be attached thereto. The lifting loop web straps are then sewn through the two layers of material, preferably with a series of box stitches. Additional resistance to cutting due to the lifting loop web material may be provided by a redoubling of the upper periphery of the container to provide four layers of material at the upper rim, or alternatively by including a peripheral web strap along the upper periphery of the container. The construction of the present invention is applicable to bulk containers formed of either plural sheets of planar material, or to seamless tubular material of virtually any type. The folds and/or the peripheral web attachment may be formed and/or attached either inwardly or outwardly with equal facility.

    • A flexible bulk container for the handling and storage of flowable materials having structural maintenance means attached to the inside surfaces of the container for providing structural support to the walls which comprise the container. The container is comprised of a plurality of walls attached together and defining an enclosure having a bottom and a top panel attached to the encircling enclosure. Several embodiments of the structural maintenance means are enclosed, the first one comprising a loops and rope combination attached to the inner surfaces of the flexible container. Loops are attached to each side of the flexible container on the inside surface at a plurality of levels. A rope is threaded through the loops on each level and its ends are attached. The rope is drawn through and adjusted in size so that it holds the container walls in a substantially vertical orientation. A second embodiment includes the use of panels arranged in a crossing formation and attached to the inside surfaces of the container walls. The third embodiment includes the use of flaps attached to each inside surface of each wall which extend from the walls toward the center of the flexible container. Each flap has a plurality of holes formed through the edge of the flap located toward the center of the container. A continuous rope is threaded through the holes in the flaps at each level and attached at its ends. A plurality of levels of the hole and rope combination are arranged on the flaps for providing the needed support to the container sides. For each embodiment, the container is filled with flowable materials and the structural maintenance means functions to provide an opposing force against the tendency of the flowable materials to push outwardly on the container, thereby maintaining the cubicle shape of the flexible container.

    • The improved bag and method of the present invention introduces relates to a bulk bag which would include four (4) side portions, each of the side portions joined at their edges for forming a bulk container space therewithin, a susbstantially flat bottom portion attached to the side portions, with the bottom portion including a centrally positioned discharge spout, which would allow bulk contained within the bag to be discharged through the discharge spout. The bag would further include an upper top portion attached to the four (4) walls of the bag, the upper top portion being substantially cone - shaped, which may include an inlet spout at the top of the cone, for allowing bulk material to be poured into the bag. When bulk material is poured into the bag portion, the bulk material would form a cone of material within the cone portion of the bag, thus assuring that the walled portion of the bag has been filled with bulk. In closing of the bag, there is provided a draw string within the peripheral wall of the inlet spout, the draw string being in a position from the juncture between the spout and the top of the cone less than one half the diameter of the spout, so that upon constriction of the spout, via the draw string to closure, the cone portion of the bag would be drawn tight towards the center of the bag, so that the cone and the spout upon being tied off would form a flat top.
