    • A cargo transporter having a cargo platform, mounted on a frame. The frame is supported by lift assemblies, which are mounted on wheel assemblies. Each lift assembly has a leg having an upper end which supports the frame and a lower end connected to the wheel assembly. Each lift assembly also has a support arm having an upper end pivotally connected to the frame and a lower end pivotally connected to the leg. A plurality of hydraulic cylinders and piston rods are mounted between the frame and the cargo platform for maneuvering the cargo platform relative to the frame.

    • A method and apparatus is disclosed and is capable of transferring both small containers that are up to 20 feet long and large containers about 40 feet long between the cargo area of an aircraft and airport cargo handling facilities. The apparatus includes a mobile, self-propelled main loader and a mobile self-propelled auxiliary loader both of which must be used together as a unit to handle the large containers, but each loader may operate alone to handle the small containers. Independent hydraulic and electrical circuits are provided on each loader, permitting the loaders to operate alone when handling small containers. Both loaders are operated together to handle larger containers at which time the hydraulic and electrical circuits are connected together allowing a single operator to control both loaders. Each loader includes a vertically movable platform with container propelling rollers and belts thereon, and the platforms are locked together when handling large containers.

    • An arrangement for assembling and conveying a number of elongated cylindrical loads such as aerial bombs, the loads being collectively supported in a carrier, includes an elongated single load supply track for delivering single ones of the loads to a collecting location. A positioning device at the collecting location arranges three of the loads from the supply track in a triangular configuration so that the axes of the single loads extend parallel to one another. The positioning device includes first and second load stands each arranged to support a different one of the single loads at the same level as the single loads on the supply track. A third load stand between the first and second load stands supports a third single load, and a mechanism associated with the third load stand lowers the third load from the level of the supply track to a certain level below that of the loads supported on the first and second stands. The collecting carrier is attached to the single loads by a handling device while the loads are positioned in the positioning device to form a collective load. A hoist arrangement removes the collective load from the positioning device, and a conveying arrangement conveys the collective load to a receiving location after the collective load is released from the hoist arrangement.

    • The invention is directed to a system for routing assorted items to preselected destinations. The items to be routed are deposited at any of various reception areas and automatically routed to a particular final destination depending upon the nature of the item. Each item carries a machine readable label, such as a bar coded label, which is scanned by an appropriate scanning mechanism. Information encoded onto the label is then obtained by the scanning mechanism and is injected into appropriate logic decoding circuitry where it is decoded to identify the item, its destination, or both. The decoded information is then applied to the system control logic which routes the label bearing item to the appropriate destination. Movement of items within the system is affected by conveyors or similar devices and appropriately located diverters to control transfer of the items to various conveyor loops or spurs.

    • The freight transporter and loader of the disclosure is a vehicle having a power-driven, steerable wheeled chassis and having an elevator support bed. The bed is provided with multiple conveyors arranged to handle either three rows of LD-3 type cargo containers or two rows of LD-7 type containers. The bed is provided with a number of parallel conveyors extending along the length of the bed, conveyor elements to selectively drive the cargo containers transversely of the bed from one longitudinal conveyor to another, and is also provided with means enabling cargo containers to be reoriented through 180* turns. The support bed is provided with an interface or extension unit to enable an aircraft to be loaded or unloaded. The interface unit is selectively shiftable transversely of the forward end of the support bed so as to be used in conjunction with a selected one of the number of longitudinal conveyors on the support bed. The interface unit can be extended and brought into coupled relationship with the sill of the freight loading doorway of the aircraft. The interface unit may also be pivoted both horizontally and vertically relative to the support bed. The vertical pivotal movability of the interface unit is related through a sensing and control system to automatic vertical adjustment of the elevator support bed in accordance with the lowering of the aircraft body as it takes on the freight and raising of the aircraft body as freight is unloaded.
