    • To reduce moment generated at the proximal portion and the supporting portion of a brake pedal and to prevent an increase in weight even when the brake pedal is disposed outside a vehicle body and an operating unit is disposed away from the brake pedal within the vehicle body. A supporting shaft rotates integrally with the brake pedal by being connected with the brake pedal at one end with a supporting member for supporting both ends of the supporting shaft. An operating member is provided for operating an operating unit by rotation of the brake pedal and the supporting shaft by being connected to the other end of the supporting shaft at the position away from the brake pedal are provided. A pedal pad unit includes a flat depressing surface forming portion to be covered by a cover on the front face on which the driver depresses and a mounting portion extending from the depressing surface forming portion in the direction opposite from the cover for being pivotally mounted on the pedal lever unit. The depressing surface forming portion and the mounting portion are integrally formed.

    • Disclosed herein is a pedal equipped with a displacement detecting sensor using like magnetic poles. The pedal includes a pedal unit, a shock-absorbing unit, a sensor inserting unit, a rod unit, and a sensing unit. The pedal unit includes a support plate, an actuating pedal coupled to the support plate, a shock-absorbing hinge, and a coupling hinge. The shock-absorbing unit includes a shock-absorbing mounting part, support shafts provided in shock-absorbing cylinders, and shock-absorbing springs. The sensor inserting unit includes an insertion housing in a center of the shock-absorbing unit, an upper permanent magnet seated in an upper support seat, a lower permanent magnet seated in a lower support seat, and a sensor support. The rod unit includes a rod mounting part having a rod mounting hole, and cylindrical insertion rods. The sensing unit includes a sensor housing at a center in the rod unit, and a displacement sensor.

    • A vehicle safety device includes a seat mounted within a passenger compartment of the vehicle, in which the seat is movably connected to a vehicle frame by a seat position adjusting mechanism that allows the seat to move along an axis between a forward-most position and a rearward-most position. An air-bag is mounted within the passenger compartment in front of the forward-most position of the seat, with the forward-most position of the seat defined as a position of the seat in which a distance between a passenger seated in the seat and the air-bag is equal to a minimum safe clearance. In addition, an exemplary method of maintaining a minimum safe clearance between an air-bag mounted in a vehicle and a vehicle passenger includes the steps of preventing motion of a seat toward the air-bag beyond a forward-most position, in which, when in the forward-most position, a passenger seated in the seat is separated from the air-bag by a predetermined minimum safe clearance, and providing a position adjusting mechanism for at least one vehicle control pedal to allow a passenger seated in the seat to adjust a distance between the seat and the at least one pedal by moving the at least one pedal toward and away from the seat. An automatic seat positioning system, which takes into account both seat to air-bag distance and eye height and automatically, may be used to optimally and automatically position a passenger to maximize safety and comfort.
