    • A system and apparatus for detecting and neutralizing remotely activated explosive devices in a combat zone, especially one of relatively limited geographic area such as an urban setting. The apparatus is configured for mounting on or within an airborne drone and includes both transmitting and receiving circuits and antennas. The apparatus detects radio transmissions by analyzing received signals using standard RF direction finding techniques and a spectrum analyzer or other signal processing circuitry. Signals may be classified as threats using predetermined criteria, and the direction of threat signals may be assessed to allow for a determination of an enemy position from which an explosive is to be detonated. The apparatus also transmits a jamming signal which may serve to detonate devices within the dynamic RF footprint of the transmitting antenna. The drone also includes a highly directional low frequency audio device which is periodically directed randomly and at suspected enemy positions.

    • A unique, fully integrated, fully programmable, and highly flexible sound distribution system and methodology for providing masking sound, background music, and paging capabilities in up to eight zones of a building or space is provided. The methodology embodied in the system includes internal masking sounds that are uniquely pre-filtered to provide efficient and effective masking of distracting sounds within selectable zones of the space with a minimum masking sound dB sound level and with a pleasant sounding and non-annoying masking sound. The system also incorporates the capacity to be controlled from a remote or local telephone to adjust the volume level in any zone serviced by the system by issuing appropriate DTMF codes from the telephone's keypad. Unique bi-tone diagnostic functions are provided for assuring that the entire system is correctly wired and installed and for troubleshooting operational anomalies. ⅓ octave equalization is provided to compensate for known frequency response characteristics of the flat panel radiators of the system and to compensate for varying room acoustics to provide a low special variation of sound among the various zones of the space. The result is a high quality high fidelity sound that is consistent from zone to zone.

    • Provided is a device for preventing eavesdropping through a speaker. More particularly, a device for preventing eavesdropping by transmitting a jamming signal through a speaker common signal line is provided, the device including: a jamming signal generator for generating a jamming signal comprising a noise signal; an amplifier for amplifying the jamming signal; and a transformer for receiving the amplified jamming signal from the amplifier and outputting the amplified jamming signal to a speaker common signal line. The device may transmit a jamming signal in an audible frequency band to the speaker common signal line, thereby rendering conversations unrecognizable to eavesdroppers when an electrical signal induced from a speaker is detected through the speaker common signal line.

    • A method for protecting a data entry device from eavesdropping includes masking a signature of entry resulting from entry of data by a user of the data entry device so as to reduce the detectability of the signature by eavesdropping. The signature may include a temperature differential in the data entry device from data entry by the user and the masking may include controlling the external temperature of the data entry device to reduce temperature differentials left in the data entry device by the user. Alternatively, the signature may include sound waves emitted from the data entry device and the masking may include masking sound waves emitted from the data entry device to reduce the detectability of the sound waves. A system may also be employed for protecting data entry to a data entry device from eavesdropping. The system includes a data entry device and means for masking a signature of entry resulting from entry of data by a user of the data entry device so as to reduce the detectability of the signature by eavesdropping.

    • A simple and efficient method for producing an obfuscated speech signal which may be used to mask a stream of speech, is disclosed. A speech signal representing the speech stream to be masked is obtained. The speech signal is then temporally partitioned into segments, preferably corresponding to phonemes within the speech stream. The segments are then stored in a memory, and some or all of the segments are subsequently selected, retrieved, and assembled into an obfuscated speech signal representing an unintelligble speech stream that, when combined with the speech signal or reproduced and combined with the speech stream, provides a masking effect. While the presently preferred embodiment finds application most readily in an open plan office, embodiments suitable for use in restaurants, classrooms, and in telecommunications systems are also disclosed.
