    • Systems and methods for facilitating on-demand delivery and processing of one or more programs and program-compatible applications on a plurality of different machines. In an embodiment, a metadata-driven command processor on a machine sends a request for a booting program and application to an agent. In response to the request, the agent invokes a resource to generate a booting program dataset that defines the booting program and an application dataset that defines the application, generates a response dataset comprising two or more nested datasets, wherein the two or more nested datasets comprise at least the booting program dataset and the application dataset, and sends the response dataset to the metadata-driven command processor. The metadata-driven command processor copies the booting program dataset and the application dataset into a process dataset comprising two or more nested datasets, and processes the first process dataset to execute the booting program and application on the machine.

    • Methods and apparatus, including computer program products, for compression of tables based on occurrence of values. In general, a number representing an amount of occurrences of a frequently occurring value in a group of adjacent rows of a column is generated, a vector representing whether the frequently occurring value exists in a row of the column is generated, and the number and the vector are stored to enable searches of the data represented by the number and the vector. The vector may omit a portion representing the group of adjacent rows. The values may be dictionary-based compression values representing business data such as business objects. The compression may be performed in-memory, in parallel, to improve memory utilization, network bandwidth consumption, and processing performance.

    • A method, apparatus, and program product are provided for creating an Encoded Matrix Index for a column in a database table. An element of the column for all rows in the database table is compared to a corresponding reference value in a reference data structure, and in response to at least one value for the element of the column not matching the reference value, indicating a variation in a variation data structure and creating a value data structure. Queries executed using the Encoded Matrix Index include terms associated with a sub-column defined in a column of a database table. The variation data structure is accessed to determine whether any variation exists between rows belonging to a sub-column of the database table. If no variation exists, a value is accessed from the reference data structure; otherwise, a value for each row of the sub-column is accessed from a value data structure.
