摘要： The invention relates to a method for operating a device and to a device for conveying loose objects from a supply station to a delivery station, wherein a conveyor is used by means of which trays containing objects can be moved. The conveyor includes at least one carrier for receiving said trays, which carrier can be moved in an intended direction of movement with the aid of driving means and which can be selectively pivoted about a pivot axis at at least one desired location. The object is either removed from the tray by pivoting the carrier about the respective pivot axis, whereby the object slides off the tray in a first direction, or the tray and the object are jointly removed from the carrier by moving the tray and the object in a second direction transversely to said first direction.

The apparatus also has a spaced pair of horizontally extending and synchronously driven worm gears for spacing the tandems and advancing them toward the tail removal station, the worm gears advancing the tandems over a ramp that engages the tail of each tandem to position all tails horizontally for proper severing.

Each chuck engages one end of the container and rotates the container into an oriented position. A transfer belt having a plurality of tactile fingers is operatively connected to the orientation wheel and transfers an oriented container nested within the tactile fingers in a fixed rotational position from the orientation wheel to a packaging machine. In a method of packaging containers according to this invention, multiple containers are positioned within the carrier in one or more rotational positions based upon the desired appearance of the package.

According to one aspect of the invention, a conveyor having a support surface for an article to be reoriented displaces the support surface in a conveying direction. The article being conveyed by displacement of the support surface contacts an abutment, adjacent to the support surface, having an elongate abutment surface extending at an angle to the conveying direction. Continued displacement of the support surface turns the article as it slides in contact with the abutment surface. An orienting gate assembly, located downstream of the abutment surface in the conveying direction, has a pair of gates that are displaceable between two configurations. In a closed configuration, the gates define a channel that narrows in the conveying direction to trap the article. In an open configuration, the channel is widened at the downstream end to release the trapped article.
