    • The release mechanism includes a hollow abutment member (36) fastened to one end of the flexible outer conduit (8) of the cable. Means (45, 46, 32) are provided for selectively moving the stop member (32) out of engagement with the shoulder of the abutment member (36), for example by a rotary movement, to permit axial movement of the abutment member (36) in the housing (30) when it is desired to release tension in the cable (7).

    • A bicycle cable disc brake is provided with a cam assembly that has improved efficiency during movement under high pressure. Basically, the cable disc brake has a cable housing, a pair of friction members and an actuated mechanism. The first friction member is movably coupled to the caliper housing between a release position and a braking position. The second caliper is also coupled to the caliper housing and arranged substantially parallel to the first friction member to form a rotor receiving slot therebetween. The actuated mechanism is movably coupled to the caliper housing to move the first friction member from the release position towards the second friction member to the braking position. The actuated mechanism has a pair of cam members movably arranged between an axially retracted position and an axially extended position with a guide member interconnecting the cam members during movement between the axial retracted position and the axially extended position. In the preferred embodiment, the guide member is a guide pin that extends from one of the cam members and is received in a bore of the other cam member.

A rotary to linear linkage between the linked brake pad assembly and the knob provides axial advancement of the brake pad assembly relative to the housing upon axial rotation of the knob in a select direction to fix a select distance between the at least one linked brake pad assembly and the disc with the brake pad assembly retracted.

    • A wheelbarrow braking system helps control speed of a wheelbarrow on a slope. A braking mechanism, such as a drum brake, a disc brake assembly or a caliper brake for the wheel, has a control cable and a twist-type control handle, which is installed in place of one of the regular handle grips. A simple twist of the handle operates the brake cable to activate the braking mechanism. A brake drum is mounted on one side of the single wheel by either bolting or welding the brake drum mounting plate to the rim of the wheel. For a two-wheeled wheelbarrow, a brake drum is mounted in the center of the axle upon which the two wheels are supported. Simply twisting the handle activates the braking system. This allows the operator to maintain contact with both handle bars during braking, facilitating greater control of the wheelbarrow. Caliper brakes may be used in the wheelbarrow braking system. A frame mounted caliper presses against a disc mounted on the wheel of the wheelbarrow to slow the wheelbarrow by friction.

    • A braking power modulator is coupled to the brake lever of a brake operating device for easy adjustment and viewing. The braking power modulator is preferably adjustable to provide different braking powers for different riders or different road conditions. The braking power modulator basically includes a mounting member, a brake lever, a biasing member, a modulating member and an adjusting member. The mounting member is adapted to be coupled to a handlebar of a bicycle, and has a cable passageway with a first abutment and a second abutment. The brake lever is pivotally coupled to the mounting member, and has a cable attachment portion. The biasing member is disposed in the cable passageway, and has first and second portions with the first portion of the biasing member being operatively coupled to the first abutment. The modulating member with the adjusting member coupled thereto is movably arranged within the cable passageway and operatively biased against the second abutment by the second portion of the biasing member. The adjusting member is movably arranged along the modulating member and biased toward the second abutment of the mounting member. A cable tensioning member is adjustably coupled to the modulating member. The biasing member is disposed in the tubular portion of the brake lever under a preloaded state with a pre-set compression force. The adjusting member engages the biasing member to change the pre-set compression force of the biasing member without changing the predetermined modulator stroke of the second blocking portion.
