    • The disclosed roller applicator, for applying a coating of molten wax or the like on paper or the like, has a bowl in which wax is melted and heated to a high working temperature by an electrical heating resistor under the thermal control of a first thermistor, directly in series with the resistor across AC power conductors. The thermistor, when heated to the working temperature, makes a transition between a low resistance state and a disproportionately higher resistance state, for greatly reducing the resistor current. An additional resistor, in parallel with the thermistor, bypasses a small keep-warm current through the heating resistor for maintaining the high working temperature. The increased voltage drop across the thermistor is supplied to one input of an operational amplifier, employed as an electronic switch to energize a first LED, signaling "ready". A second thermistor, positioned so that the degree of immersion thereof in the molten wax decreases as the wax level drops, cools off and makes a transition between high resistance and low resistance states. This transition is translated into a magnitude change of electrical pulses supplied to a second operational amplifier for energizing a second LED, indicating "low wax", but such energization is initially disabled by a nonconductive series transistor, which is later rendered conductive by the output of the first operational amplifier. A third LED is energized whenever the electrical power is on.

    • A hot melt adhesive applicator capable of dispensing relatively large volumes of molten adhesive at relatively fast rates, comprising a barrel and rotary valve block mounted in a housing and a rotary valve to control the flow of the molten adhesive through the barrel. Heaters attached to the barrel maintain the adhesive in the molten state. Advantageously an arm may be mounted on the spindle of the rotary valve, capable of being moved manually, by electrical or mechanical means to open and close the valve. Compression seals mounted on the valve spindle prevent seepage of molten thermoplastic from the valve block. The passage in the rotary valve can be selected to provide a low pressure drop in the applicator.

    • A hand tool (implement) such as a glue gun and a support for the hand tool. The support is designed for engaging the hand tool and supporting the hand tool in a manner that enables the hand tool to be conveniently removed therefrom. In the preferred embodiment, the support comprises an upstanding post adapted to engage a first portion of the hand tool. The support includes a special lever which is adapted to exert a prying force upon the first portion of the tool to disengage the tool from the upstanding post. The construction of the tool and the support allows the user to readily disengage and remove the hand tool from the support with a single hand simply by grasping the tool and imparting a slight rocking or rotational force thereto. The tool and support are particularly useful in constructing a cordless glue gun that is electrically energized while on the support and which is conveniently detached from the support and from the source of electricity.

    • A holder for use with a trigger-controlled glue gun is disclosed. More particularly, the holder has two steel supports which are welded together. The lower portion of such is welded to a steel platform which rests on a table surface, while the upper portion forms a cradle-like resting place for a hot or cold glue gun. Moreover, it not only provides such a resting place for the glue-gun but makes the gun convenient for use and in a safe place when heated or cold and not in use. The base platform provides a place for any possible drips of glue from the glue gun when hot. The holder is made from steel and therefore is sufficiently heavy to prevent sliding on a worktable when using. The base platform is made from a smaller inclined plate and a flat base plate.

    • Apparatus for dispensing mastic material such as butyle mastic sealant consists of a hopper for receiving cold mastic material and which is arranged to be heated to soften the material for feeding towards an outlet by a feed screw in a lower longitudinal receptacle. A pre-heating coil is provided in the hopper and a lower part of the latter and the lower receptacle and an outlet barrel are housed in a tank containing a heating fluid such as oil heated by thermostatically controlled immersion heaters to maintain the mastic material in the required softened condition in the hopper receptacle and barrel. Heated oil from the tank is circulated through the pre-heating coil. A reduced continuation of the feed screw operates in the barrel for force feed of the heat softened mastic material to the outlet. In use an applicator nozzle or gun is connected by a hose to the outlet. Both the hose and gun are heated to maintain the mastic material in a required softened condition up to the point of issue from the gun. Operation of the gun may also control operation of the feed screw drive.

    • A novel heat exchanger structure, for a hand-held adhesive gun of the type adapted to discharge a heated thermoplastic adhesive through a discharge valve located in the gun's barrel. In preferred form, the novel heat exchanger includes a heat exchanger core fixed in location within a heater body's bore. The heat exchanger core has spiral threads on the outer surface thereof, and the bore's surface has spiral threads thereon, too. The heat exchanger core's threads are sized relative to the inlet bore's threads such that the core can be threaded into the bore, and such that the threads cooperate to define a spiral path about the core through the bore from one end to the other, thereby defining a spiral heat exchange path through the gun's heater body. This novel heat exchanger is particularly adapted to elevate the temperature of the molten adhesive, just prior to dispensing it, above that temperature level at which the molten adhesive is supplied to the hand gun.
