    • The present invention provides liquid crystal devices comprised of a composite of an internal polymer network localized on the substrate surfaces and short-pitch dual-frequency switchable cholesteric liquid crystal that operate in two different modes including in-plane switching (amplitude modulation) and out-of-plane switching (phase modulation). The invention further provides a method of making a liquid crystal device demonstrating uniform lying helical axis where the device comprises a composite of an internal spatially ordered polymer network localized by in-situ photo-polymerization at the surface of the substrate. The invention can be used for flat panel displays, as well as spatial light modulators for applications such as optical waveguides, optical beam scanners, computer-generated holograms, and adaptive optics.

    • Mining of translation pairs for cross-language translation uses a collective extraction model to exploit the similarity among the translation pairs and adaptively learn extraction patterns for each bilingual webpage. The process queries a web search engine by an initial term translation list to retrieve bilingual webpages containing translations, and crawls websites hosting the retreived bilingual webpages to retrieve additional bilingual webpages. The process then extracts additional translation pairs from the bilingual webpages retrieved by learning translation patterns of the bilingual webpages retrieved and adaptively extreacting translation pairs from the bilingual webpages using the learned translation patterns. More bilingual webpages may be acquired for additional website crawling and translation pair extracting by querying the web search engine by additional translation pairs.

    • The present invention discloses a method for query of domain names of telephone numbers, e.g., E.164 numbers. The method comprises: in ENUM DNS (Electronic numbers to URI Mapping Domain Name System), dividing a domain name of a telephone number into a public domain name part and a digit domain name part; storing sequentially public domain name information separated by spacer(s) in the public domain name part and the data obtained by arranging digits in the digit domain name part in a preset order into nodes of a search tree according to storage rules of the search tree; on receiving a query request, the ENUM DNS obtaining the public domain name information of the domain name and finding the corresponding nodes according to search tree rules; obtaining the digits separated by spacer(s) in the domain name, arranging the digits into data in a prescribed order of the system, and finding the next-level nodes of the search tree. With the method of the present invention the height of the search tree can be effectively reduced, the hash degree of the HASH values generated by the nodes may be improved, and the possibility of conflict may be reduced, thus improving the query efficiency of the system.
