    • Sheets are separated one-by-one from their stack placed in a holder by a sheet feed roller and a separation member provided in an inclined separation plate. The separation member can be a flat metal plate, and possibly includes a base portion, arm portions extending from the base portion, separation protrusions provided on the arm portions and capable of contacting a sheet, and elastic legs extending from the base portion. The arm portions, the separation protrusions, and the elastic legs can be arranged along a sheet feeding direction. The inclined separation plate may be provided with window holes on a central portion with respect to a direction perpendicular to the sheet feeding direction. The window holes can allow each separation protrusion or two or more separation protrusions to protrude toward the front surface of the inclined separation plate. Bridge portions can be provided between adjacent window holes. The bridge portions may strengthen the bending stiffness of the inclined separation plate in the direction perpendicular to the sheet feeding direction, and thus the separation protrusions are allowed to protrude only by a specified amount as designed.

    • An image forming apparatus includes an image forming unit, a platen, a feeding device, and a suction device. The paper carrier includes first protrusions, recesses, second protrusions, and two suction ports in each recesses. The first protrusions extend in parallel with a feed direction and are arranged at predetermined intervals in a direction perpendicular to the feed direction. The recesses are defined between adjacent ones of the first protrusions and extend in the feed direction. The second protrusions are provided on downstream and upstream sides, respectively, in the feed direction with respect to an image forming region and extend in the direction perpendicular to the feed direction. The two suction ports are defined on the downstream and upstream sides, respectively, in the feed direction with respect to the image forming region in each of the recesses. The suction ports communicate with the suction device.

    • A sheet guiding system guides different sized sheets so as to be fed in a first direction. Sheets stacked on a sheet tray are guided by selectively using a fixed guide, a first movable guide, and a second movable guide. The fixed guide is provided on the sheet tray immovably in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction. The first and second movable guides are provided on the sheet tray and are movable in the second direction. The fixed guide and the first movable guide are used to sandwich and guide the sheets that have a first dimension in the second direction equal to or larger than a predetermined dimension, which is, for example, a width of an A4 size sheet. The first and second movable guides are used to sandwich and guide the sheets that have a second dimension in the second direction smaller than the predetermined dimension.

    • An image recording device includes a recording unit, a feeding mechanism, a guide member, and a lock portion. The feeding mechanism is configured to feed a first feeding object along a feeding path. The feeding path has a straight path and a curved path. The recording unit faces the straight path. The guide member defines the curved path and is rotatable between an exposed position and a closed position. The lock portion is movable between a locked position at which the guide member is locked in the closed position and an unlocked position at which the lock is released. The guide member has a recess formed therein and the feeding mechanism further feeds a second feeding object to the recess along the straight path. When the second feeding object is disposed in the recess, the lock portion is disposed at the locked position.
