摘要： Systems and methods are provided that confront the problem of failed storage integrated circuits (ICs) in a solid state drive (SSD) by using a fault-tolerant architecture along with one error correction code (ECC) mechanism for random/burst error corrections and an L-fold interleaving mechanism. The systems and methods described herein keep the SSD operational when one or more integrated circuits fail and allow the recovery of previously stored data from failed integrated circuits and allow random/burst errors to be corrected in other operational integrated circuits. These systems and methods replace the failed integrated circuits with fully functional/operational integrated circuits treated herein as spare integrated circuits. Furthermore, these systems and methods improve I/O performance in terms of maximum achievable read/write data rate.

摘要： For writing data to multi-track tape, a received data set is received and segmented into unencoded subdata sets, each comprising an array having K2 rows and K1 columns. For each unencoded subdata set, N1-K1 C1-parity bytes are generated for each row and N2-K2 C2-parity bytes are generated for each column. The C1 and C2 parity bytes are appended to the ends of the row and column, respectively, to form encoded C1 and C2 codewords, respectively. All of the C1 codewords per data set are endowed with a specific codeword header to form a plurality of partial codeword objects (PCOs). Each PCO is mapped onto a logical data track according to information within the header. On each logical data track, adjacent PCOs are merged to form COs which are modulation encoded and mapped into synchronized COs. Then T synchronized COs are written simultaneously to the data tape where T is the number of concurrent active tracks on the data tape.

摘要： Exemplary embodiments of the present invention comprise a method for the use of an intra-disk redundancy storage protection operation for the scrubbing of a disk. The method comprises initiating a disk scrubbing operation upon each disk of a plurality of disks that are comprised within a storage disk array, issuing a disk scrubbing command for a predetermined segment of the disks that are comprised within the storage disk array at a predetermined time interval, and identifying an unrecoverable segment on a disk. The method further comprises determining if unrecoverable sectors comprised within the unrecoverable segment can be reconstructed, and reconstructing the unrecoverable sectors of the unrecoverable segment and relocating the segment to a spare storage location on the disk in the event that the segment cannot be reconstructed within its original storage location.

The read channel comprises an analog to digital converter which asynchronously samples at a fixed rate an analog signal formed by reading a data track, where that data track was written to a data storage medium at a symbol rate and an interpolator interconnected with the analog to digital converter. The read channel further comprises a fractionally-spaced equalizer, where the interpolator provides an interpolated signal to the fractionally-spaced equalizer at an interpolation rate, where that interpolation rate is greater than the symbol rate. The fractionally-spaced equalizer forms a synchronous equalized signal. The read channel further comprises a gain control module interconnected with the fractionally-spaced equalizer, and a sequence detector interconnected with the gain control module.

The block of n bits is divided into a first set of n+1 encoded bits, wherein at least one of P1 subblocks of the first set satisfies a G, M and I constraints. The first set of n+1 encoded bits is mapped into a second set of n+1 encoded bits wherein at least one of P2 subblocks of the second set gives rise to at least Q1 transitions after 1/(1+D2) precoding. A second set of n+1 encoded bits is divided into P3 encoded subblocks and the P3 encoded subblocks are interleaved among (m−n)/s unencoded symbols so as to form a (m+1)-bit output sequence codeword which is then stored on a data storage medium.

摘要： An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for adaptive asynchronous equalization using leakage. An equalizer sums products of a plurality of tap signals from a delay line sampling a read signal and a plurality of corresponding tap coefficients to form an equalized signal in an asynchronous time domain having a first sampling rate. A leaky function module calculates a leaky function for each tap coefficient in the asynchronous time domain. An adaptation module adapts each of the tap coefficients as the leaky function for each tap coefficient summed with a signal-dependent updating function for each tap coefficient.

摘要： Provided are techniques for synchronous servo channel for a data tape drive. A servo reader is configured to read servo bursts from a data tape. An anti-aliasing filter is operable to output a bandlimited signal and is coupled to receive a servo channel signal comprising servo bursts from the servo reader. An analog-to-digital converter (ADC) is operable to output signal samples and is coupled to receive the bandlimited signal from the anti-aliasing filter. An interpolation and control unit is operable to output interpolated signal samples and control signals, has a first input coupled to receive the signal samples from the ADC, and has a second input coupled to receive the correlation signal samples from the dibit correlator. A dibit correlator is operable to output correlation signal samples and is coupled to receive the interpolated signal samples and control signals from the interpolation and control unit.
