摘要： A low pulsatility syringe pump including a duplex bearing set rotatingly supporting a lead screw, and a transmission having a first drive train configured to increase a number of motor rotations required for a single rotation of the lead screw, and a second drive train configured to reduce the number of motor rotations required for a single rotation of the lead screw as compared to the first drive train. Another embodiment also includes a motor configured to rotate the syringe about its own axis, independent of the motion of the lead screw. In this other embodiment, the fluid in the syringe barrel includes objects (such as cells, latex beads, etc.) entrained in the fluid. The rate of rotation (e.g., about three revolutions per second) is chosen such that each object traces a substantially circular pathway in the syringe barrel and remains in suspension.

摘要： The invention detects areas of interest at low magnification, locating possible abnormal cells or other cells of interest using image processing and statistical pattern recognition techniques. Next, at high magnification, the areas identified at low magnification are re-examined. The information from the low magnification and high magnification scans is collated and a determination is made about the slide--whether it is normal, abnormal, contains endocervical component, and so forth. The invention also provides a method and apparatus to train object feature and slide feature classifiers. The invention provides an automated cytology system that can process training slides for use in a feed back classifier development environment. The invention also can classify endocervical groups of cells.

摘要： A laser source arrangement is provided for use in a laser instrument of a kind used to transmit a scan pattern to a target which is spaced from the laser instrument and to detect light reflected from the target. The laser source arrangement preferably comprises a laser diode for producing a laser beam used to form the scan pattern. The laser diode is characterized by astigmatism which is subject to variation with the temperature of the case of the diode. The arrangement further includes drive apparatus for driving the laser diode in a pulsed mode having a duty cycle which reduces the astigmatism and substantially controls the temperature dependence of the astigmatism. Optics are also provided for statically correcting the astigmatism of the laser diode.
