    • An image sampling and color shift correction system in a multiple image forming apparatus forms a multiple image by providing a plurality of image output units along a transfer belt. An image control unit applies image data to the image output units. A pattern generator repeatedly generates a register shift measurement pattern in the main scanning direction and the sub-scanning direction of the respective image output units. The register shift measurement pattern is formed outside of the largest paper area. A sampling unit samples an image formed by the respective image output units at both sides of a paper on the transfer belt in the main scanning direction of the transfer belt. A processing unit takes data sampled by the sampling unit and processes the amount of register shift. A control unit controls the image output and image sampling correction.

    • A photosensitive-drum supporting member has a pair of side walls confronting both ends of each photosensitive drum. The photosensitive-drum supporting member supports the photosensitive drums between the side walls. The photosensitive-drum supporting member moves between: a stowed position at which the photosensitive-drum supporting member is stowed within an apparatus main body; and a moved position at which the photosensitive-drum supporting member is moved from the stowed position to outside the apparatus main body through an opening. Exposing members are provided at the photosensitive-drum supporting member such that the exposing members move between: an exposing position at which each exposing member is adjacent to a corresponding photosensitive drum; and a retracted position at which each exposing member is separated from the corresponding photosensitive drum and is engaged by an engaging part. The exposing members are accommodated within the photosensitive-drum supporting member both at the exposing position and at the retracted position.

    • In an image forming apparatus, each of a plurality of exposure units provided at a drum supporting member is configured to be movable between an exposure position in which the exposure unit is located in proximity to a corresponding photoconductor drum supported by the drum supporting member and a retreating position in which the exposure unit retreated away from the corresponding photoconductor drum is positioned by a stopper, such that the exposure unit is located inside the drum supporting member regardless of whether the exposure unit is in the exposure position or in the retreating position.     • An image forming apparatus includes: a belt; a plurality of photosensitive units that contact the belt are disposed at a predetermined interval in the transportation direction of the belt and transfer marks for image adjustment to the belt, images of different colors being respectively formed on the plurality of photosensitive units; an exposure unit that exposes the photosensitive units by light so that the marks are disposed at the same interval on the belt; a detector that detects the marks transferred to the belt; and an image adjustment unit that performs an image adjustment based on a detection result of the detector. A width and an interval of the marks in the transportation direction are set so that a mark of at least one color does not exist in all contact areas of the belt contacting the plurality of photosensitive units.
