摘要： An optical information recording medium includes a substrate 1 and two information layers (2, 4) formed on the substrate. The information layer is formed of a thin film showing a change that can be detected optically by irradiation of a light beam 7. A separating layer 3 that is transparent to a wavelength of the light beam 7 is formed between the information layers 2 and 4. Each information layer (2, 4) includes a sector area having sector address portions (9, 13) and data areas (8, 12) for recording information signals, the sector address portion and the data area being divided in the circumferential direction, and a management area (10, 14) for recording identification information about the amount of dislocation between the sector address portions 9 and 14 in the circumferential direction. Thus, the identification information about the amount of dislocation can be recorded, so that demodulation errors during reproduction can be reduced by switching amplification gain or slice level during reproduction according to the identification information. Also, stable data recording can be achieved by switching recording power according to a gate signal.

Guide grooves for tracking or information pits corresponding to information signals are formed on a surface of a second substrate. A second information layer having a reflectance higher than that of the first information layer is formed on a surface of the second substrate. Between the first information layer and the second information layer, there is formed a transparent separation layer for positioning the first information layer and the second information layer to be spaced a predetermined distance apart from each other.

The optical information recording and reproducing apparatus includes: an optical portion for focusing a light beam emitted from a light source on the recording medium; a focusing control portion for controlling a focal point of the light beam; a tracking control portion for controlling the position of the light beam; a selection portion for selecting which of the concave portions and the convex portions of the guide grooves are used for recording or reproducing; a polarity inverting portion for inverting the polarity of an output signal from the tracking control portion depending on a result selected by the selection portion; a waveform setting portion for setting a modulation pattern for the light; and a signal reproduction portion for demodulating the information signal from a light reflected or transmitted by recorded marks recorded on the recording medium; wherein at least one of the focusing control portion, the tracking control portion, the waveform setting portion and the signal reproduction portion has at least two kinds of operation conditions for recording and reproducing the information signal on/from the concave portions and the convex portions of the guide grooves, and wherein the operation conditions are selected depending on the result selected by the selection portion.

摘要： A method by which, in an optical disk recording and reproducing device, the time required for a test recording performed prior to an actual information recording can be reduced according to characteristics of an optical disk. A random pattern signal is transmitted from a random pattern signal generating circuit 3 and recorded on a test track on an optical disk 1, and a bit error rate of a reproduction signal is measured. Only when a value of the bit error rate is not less than a fixed value, test pattern signals are transmitted from a test pattern signal generating circuit 4 and recorded. An edge timing of a reproduction signal is measured by an edge timing detecting circuit 13. Based on a result of the measurement, edge positions of a front-end pulse and a back-end pulse are corrected.

摘要： During reproduction of a multilayer recording medium including three or more information layers, a light beam is irradiated onto a target information layer. A reflected light from the information layer is mainly detected to generate an information signal RF1, while reflected lights from the other information layers than the target layer are detected to generate an information signal RF2. The signal RF2 is amplified by a gain which is adjusted based on a predetermined cross talk information. A difference between the information signal RF1 and the amplified cross talk signal RF2 is obtained to cancel a component of the cross talk signal in the information signal RF1 and generate a reproduction signal RF3 indicating information recorded in the target information layer to be reproduced.
