摘要： For and in a protective garment having an outer shell, a liner having a barrier side and an opposite side and having, on the barrier side, a moisture barrier or a barrier against chemical or biological agents is folded along two folds, which are parallel when laid flat and straightened, so as to form a fin projecting from the opposite side. A seal providing a similar barrier is provided between the folds. A plural-part fastener, such as a snap fastener or a hook-and-loop fastener, is used to fasten the liner having the barrier to and within the outer shell. One part of the plural-part fastener is mounted to the liner and another part of the plural-part fastener is mounted to the outer shell. Moreover, the liner may have a barrier on each side and be similarly formed with a similar fin projecting oppositely, having a similar seal, and mounting one part of a similar fastener, whereby a thermal liner mounting another part of the similar fastener may be similarly fastened to and within the liner having the barriers.

摘要： A protective pad is affixed to a protective garment having a moisture barrier and having an outer shell covering the moisture barrier, the moisture barrier being impervious to moisture and the outer shell being pervious to moisture. The protective pad has a moisture absorber incorporating a superabsorbent polymer and an outer cover pervious to moisture. The moisture absorber covers a region of the outer shell of the protective garment. The outer cover of the protective pad covers the moisture barrier. The outer cover of the protective pad is affixed to the outer cover of the protective garment, at least partly around the moisture absorber. The outer cover of the protective pad and the outer shell of the protective garment, in the covered region, are adapted to conduct moisture into the moisture absorber, in which the superabsorbent polymer is adapted to absorb much if not all moisture conducted into the moisture absorber. The moisture absorber has a fibrous matrix incorporating particles of the superabsorbent polymer and being disposed between an inner cover pervious to moisture and an outer cover pervious to moisture. The covers may be quilted so as to segregate discrete regions of the fibrous matrix. The outer cover of the protective pad is affixed to the outer shell of the protective garment, at least partly around the moisture absorber, as by stitching or adhesively. A gap may be left, which enables the moisture absorber to be withdrawn from a space between the outer cover of the protective pad and the outer cover of the protective garment, to be reinserted into the space therebetween, or to be replaced by a similar absorber to be inserted into the space therebetween. A fastener may be provided to fasten the outer cover of the protective pad releasably to the outer shell, across the gap.

Fitting into an associated one of the pair of boots when the garment and boots are worn together, each leg portion has an outer layer being a moisture barrier and terminating in an outer sock and has an inner layer being a thermal liner and terminating in an inner sock or in a stirrup. The garment further comprises a pair of cuffs, each cuff being attached to and around the outer layer of an associated one of the leg portions so extend downwardly, over and around an upper area on the leg-encasing portion of the associated one of the boots when the garment and boots are worn. The cuffs divert water or other liquids sprayed or splashed onto the leg portions, so as to prevent the diverted liquids from entering the leg-encasing portions of the boots.

摘要： A firefighter's garment as dislosed herein may be a coat or trousers or a vest. The garment has an outer layer, an intermediate layer, and an inner layer. A spacer element or elements are positoned between two of the layers of the garment. The spacer element or elements in the firefighter's garment establish and maintain an air space or air spaces between the layers of the garment, even when localized pressure or weight is applied to portions of the garment. Thus, the firefighter's garment has excellent heat insulation qualities without being heavy and/or bulky. Thus, a firefighter wearing the garment is continually protected and is subject to minimum stress and is about to work more effectively than a firefighter wearing a firefighter's conventional garment.
