    • A heat exchanger comprises a pair of spaced fittings each having a first opening on one side thereof for communication with a fluid carrying conduit. The fittings are connected to one another by at least one pair of tubes extending from second sides of the fittings in fluid communication with the first openings. The tubes diverge away from one another as they extend from the fittings and may be provided with heat dissipating fins. The tubes are preferably semi-circular in cross-section and in one form of the heat exchanger the tube ends are received by round openings in the fitting. By this construction, the use of header tanks and their associated disadvantages is avoided and a heat exchanger is provided which can withstand high internal pressures and is readily manufactured in a cost effective manner.

    • A re-usable piston filter including an elongated tubular barrel member with a closed lower end and an open upper end, an elongated tubular piston member having an open upward end and a fluid-permeable lower end, and filter means detachably secured to the lower end of the piston. Downward movement of the piston in the barrel forces liquid in the barrel through the filter and into the tubular piston. An air valve in the barrel can be opened to enable the piston to be withdrawn from the barrel. The filter at the lower end of the piston can be changed or removed as desired.

    • An improved electrode for establishing electrical contact with a nerve of a patient. This electrical contact may be used to sense neural activity on the nerve or to artificially stimulate it to perform various medical treatments. The electrode has an outer cuff of an insulating material which is sutured around the nerve to be contacted. A drug impregnated layer of material is positioned inside of the outer cuff. This material is a polymeric matrix which permits the drug to leach out at a predetermined rate. The drug is a steroid such as dexamethasone sodium phosphate. The actual electrical contact is produced by metallic foil which is positioned on the surface of the drug impregnated layer of material which is located inside of the cuff. An insulated lead electrically couples the metallic foil to an electronic circuit located remote from the nerve. The leaching out of the drug serves to control irritation, swelling, and impedance of the nerve/electrode interface.

    • A valve for directing pressurized fluid includes a fluid directional element for controlling fluid flow to a work member and a motor, and a one way flow member for controlling fluid flow to the work member. The one way flow member is actuated by a pilot operated actuator. The pilot operated actuator includes surfaces against which fluid pressure acts to move the actuator from a first position to a position actuating the one way flow member to allow flow to the work member. The valve further includes a capturing mechanism to hold the pilot operated actuator in its actuating position to hold the one way flow member in the actuated position allowing flow to and from the work member.
