    • Apparatus for measuring deflection of a film in a film gate having an aperture illuminated by a primary light source having an output spectrum, includes: a) a reflective photonic probe mounted in the film gate, the reflective probe having at least one optical fiber; b) a measurement light source coupled to reflective photonic probe and emitting a wavelength of light outside of the primary light source's spectrum; c) a photodetector coupled to the reflective photonic probe; d) a narrow pass optical filter located between the photodetector and the reflective photonic probe, the narrow pass filter passing the light from the measurement light source and blocking the light from the primary light source; and e) signal processing electronics connected to the photodetector for producing a signal representing the motion of the film perpendicular to the plane of the film.

    • A method for measuring a physical distance in a camera between a first reference surface on the camera and a second reference surface on the camera wherein the first reference surface is substantially parallel to the second reference surface. An optical probe assembly is used in the method and includes a housing removably lockable to the camera in a predetermined orientation relative to the first reference surface. The method includes the steps of determining a distance LP from the first reference surface to an optically transparent material disposed intermediate the first and second reference surfaces. An optical probe assembly is removably mounted to the camera, and an optically flat plate is mounted at the second reference surface. Non-coherent light interferometry is used to determine a distance PF between the optically transparent material and the second reference surface. The distances of LP and PF are used to determine a distance between the first reference surface and the second reference surface.

    • An acoustic sensor functioning as a digital logic device comprises a resonant chamber, at least one port establishing a first resonant frequency therein when the port is closed and establishing a second resonant frequency therein when the port is open, a transmitter in communication with the chamber and tuned to either of the first or second resonant frequencies and a receiver in communication with the chamber for providing a digital logic output. When the port is closed or open and when the transmitter is tuned to the second or first resonant frequencies, respectively, the device functions as an inverter.In another form an acoustic logic device comprises a resonant chamber, at least two ports establishing a plurality of resonant frequencies therein depending upon whether the ports are all open, all closed or some open and the rest closed, a receiver in communication with the chamber for providing a digital logic output, and a transmitter in communication with the chamber and tuned to one of the resonant frequencies. When the device includes two ports and the transmitter is tuned to the resonant frequency corresponding to both of the ports being closed, or both of the ports being open or one of the ports being open and the other port being closed, the device functions as an AND gate or a NOR gate or an EXCLUSIVE OR gate, respectively. Also provided are acoustic logic devices having three or more ports.

    • A projection display surface for reducing speckle artifacts from a projector having at least one narrow band light source having an incident visible wavelength band, wherein the incident visible wavelength band has an incident peak wavelength and an incident bandwidth, comprising: a substrate having a reflective layer that reflects incident light over at least the incident visible wavelength band; and a fluorescent agent distributed over the reflective layer, wherein the fluorescent agent absorbs a fraction of the light in the incident visible wavelength band and emits light in an emissive visible wavelength band having an emissive peak wavelength and an emissive bandwidth; wherein return light from the projection display surface produced when incident light in the incident visible wavelength band is incident on the projection display surface contains light in both the incident visible wavelength band and emissive visible wavelength band, thereby reducing speckle artifacts.
