摘要： A liquid crystalline compound expressed by the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents an alkyl group of 1 to 12 carbon atoms, and one or two not adjacent CH.sub.2 group excluding the terminal in this group may be replaced by --CO-- group, --OCO-- group, --COO-- group or --CH.dbd.CH group; X and Z each represents H, F or Cl; Y represents perfluoroalkyl group or perfluoroalkyloxy group of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and one or two F atoms in this group may be replaced by H; one of A, B and C represents cyclohexene ring and the others thereof are chosen from among covalent bond or cyclohexane group and benzene ring and these rings may be substituted by F or Cl; and l, m and n each are 0 or 1, independently of each other, but when m=0, then l=0. It is possible to provide a liquid crystal composition having a large .DELTA.n, a low viscosity and a high voltage-holding ratio, and exhibiting a nematic liquid crystal phase within a broad temperature range and having a very high .DELTA..epsilon. and a low driving voltage, and preferably used for TFT. Further it is possible to provide a novel liquid crystalline compound preferred as a component for the liquid crystal composition.

摘要： An object of the present invention is to provide novel liquid crystalline compounds having a negative and extremely large dielectric anisotropy value and a small optical anisotropy value together, to provide liquid crystal compositions comprising the liquid crystalline compound, and to provide liquid crystal display devices fabricated by using the liquid crystal composition; the liquid crystalline compounds have 2,3-difluorophenyl moiety and are expressed by the general formula (1) wherein Ra and Rb each independently represent a straight chain or branched alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms in which group any methylene group may be replaced by —O—, —CH═CH—, or —C≡C—, but there is not a case wherein —O— continues; ring A1 represents cyclohexane-1,4-diyl not adjacent any methylene group may be replaced by —O—; ring A2 represents 2,3-difluoro-1,4-phenylene in which phenylene hydrogen atoms at 5-position and 6-position may each independently be replaced by fluorine atoms; Z1 and Z2 each independently represent single bond or —CH2CH2—; Xa, Xb, Xc, and Xd each independently represent hydrogen atom, fluorine atom, or chlorine atom, but at least one of Xa, Xb, Xc, and Xd is fluorine atom or chlorine atom and any atom which constitutes the compound may be replaced by its isotope.

摘要： Disclosed are (A) a liquid crystalline compound of the general formula: ##STR1## wherein X.sub.1 stands for a hydrogen atom, cyano group, a halogen atom, or an alkyl group with 1-20 carbon atoms, and one or more methylene groups in the alkyl group may be replaced by --CH.dbd.CH--, --.tbd.C--, or oxygen atoms and one or more hydrogen atoms may be substituted by halogen atoms; X.sub.2 stands for a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group with 1-10 carbon atoms, or a substituent of --(A.sub.4 --Z.sub.4).sub.s --A.sub.6 --X.sub.3 ; l, m, n and s each stands for an integer of 0 or 1, and p, and q each stands for an integer of 0-5; X.sub.3 for an alkyl group with 1-10 carbon atoms; Z.sub.1 -Z.sub.4 each independently stands for a covalent bond or an alkylene group with 1-5 carbon atoms, and one or more methylene groups in the alkylene group may be replaced by --CH.dbd.CH--, --C.tbd.C--, or an oxygen atom and one or more hydrogen atoms i the alkylene group may be substituted by halogen atoms; the ring A.sub.1 -A.sub.6 each independently stands for a 1,4-phenylene, a 1,4-cyclohexenylene, or a trans-1,4-cyclohexylene, and the carbon atoms in the ring may be replaced by nitrogen atoms or oxygen atoms and the hydrogen atoms in the ring may be substituted by halogen atoms or cyano groups; and B.sub.1 and B.sub.2 each independently stands for --CH.dbd.CH-- or --C.tbd.C--, with the proviso that both of B.sub.1 and B.sub.2 should not be --CH.dbd.CH-- at the same time, (B) a liquid crys-line composition comprising at least one liquid crystalline compound of the general formula (1), and (C) a liquid crystal display element wherein the composition (B) is used. The liquid crystalline compounds of the present invention are distinguished by their characteristics of steep threshold voltage, an adequate magnitude of values in optical or dielectric anisotropy, an extremely high ratio of elastic constants and low viscosity in addition to good compatibility with other liquid crystalline compounds.

摘要： Laser light is irradiated onto a foreign substance, which is contaminated into an organic layer of an organic EL element, to insulate the periphery of the foreign substance, thereby repairing a defect of the organic EL element that may be caused by the foreign substance. Before the laser light is irradiated onto a pixel containing a foreign substance, the laser light is irradiated onto peripheral pixels around the pixel containing the foreign substance, while shifting a focal position of laser light. The focal position of laser light is defined based on a laser irradiation mark and an emission state of the pixel. The laser light is irradiated with the adjusted focus to insulate a foreign substance section without damaging other portions than the periphery of the foreign substance, thereby making it possible to repair a defect that may be caused by the foreign substance.

摘要： The present invention prevents a local luminance reduction at defects in pixel electrodes with a rapid and easy method. The present invention provides a method of manufacturing an organic EL panel that includes a TFT panel and organic EL devices disposed over a surface of the TFT panel in matrix arrangement, each of the organic EL devices including a pixel electrode disposed over the surface of the TFT panel, an organic luminescent layer disposed over the pixel electrode, and a counter electrode disposed over the organic functional layer. The method includes the steps of: providing a TFT panel; patterning pixel electrodes on a surface of the TFT panel; detecting in the pixel electrodes defects in which the surface of the TFT panel is exposed; roughening a portion of the surface of the TFT panel by applying a laser beam onto the portion, the portion including a surface exposed through the defect in the pixel electrode; forming an organic functional layer over the pixel electrodes and the surface of the TFT panel exposed through the defect in the pixel electrode; and forming a counter electrode over the organic functional layer.
