    • An electronic device includes a first rechargeable battery, a solar cell mounted on the electronic device, a second rechargeable battery and a power management circuit. The power management circuit includes a control module, a DC/DC module, a switch and a power supply switching module. The DC/DC module is configured for converting the DC power generated by the solar cell from one voltage level to another, and activating and maintaining the activation of the control module. The switch is turned on by the control module when the control module is activated, causing the DC power from the DC/DC module to charge the second rechargeable battery. The power supply switching module is controlled by the control module to select the second rechargeable battery to power the electronic device if the voltage level of the rechargeable battery is lower than that of the second rechargeable battery.

    • An auxiliary input device for menu control on a portable computing device is provided. The auxiliary input device includes a lighting unit, an optical lens, and an optical sensor. The lighting unit is for projecting light to a surface upon which the portable computing device is moved upon. The optical lens is for receiving reflected light from the surface and focusing the reflected light on the optical sensor. The optical sensor is for periodically capturing images of the reflected light and transmitting information of the images captured to the portable computing device. The images captured map a movement of the portable computing device. Accordingly, the portable computing device scrolls through a menu displayed thereon according to the images captured. A related method is also provided.

    • An exemplary method for conserving power of a portable communication device includes: supplying voltage by a power supply; distributing voltages to other units of the portable communication device including a communication unit and a backlight unit; the portable communication device entering a normal mode after being powered by one of the voltages; generating digital voltage signals corresponding to the voltage supplied by the power supply; detecting a voltage of the digital voltage signals to obtain a detected voltage; comparing the detected voltage with a predetermined value; and if the detected voltage is equal to or less than the predetermined value, changing from the normal mode to a power conserving mode, and stopping distribution of the voltages to at least one of the communication unit and the backlight unit. Thereby, an operational time of other units of the portable communication device can be prolonged.

    • A preferred embodiment of the touch sensing apparatus includes one or more touch sensing units, a detector, and a signal processing unit. Each touch sensing unit comprises: a differential signal source for generating two signals which have a same frequency but reverse phases; and two sensors for receiving a touch signal of a user's finger. One sensor is connected to an anode of the differential signal source, and the other sensor is connected to a cathode of the differential signal source. The detector is for converting the received signal into a digital signal. An input terminal of the detector is connected to the sensors of each touch sensing unit. The signal processing unit is for determining which sensor is touched according to the frequency and phase of the signal output from the detector. The signal processing unit is connected to an output terminal of the detector. The touch sensing unit may further include a reference signal circuit.
