    • A fluidic oscillator for a shunt flowmeter for measuring gas flow through a pipeline, comprises three sections arranged in series and providing a generally U-shaped flow path through the oscillator. The first section has an inlet end connectable to an outlet port in the pipeline and leading to a main fluid nozzle communicating with an interaction chamber, diverging sidewalls of the flow path extending downstream of the interaction chamber, and feedback loops extending from the diverging sidewalls to control nozzles at the interaction chamber. The second section is juxtaposed to the first section to return the flow to the pipeline and has an outlet end connectable to a return port in the pipeline. The second section includes diverging sidewalls terminating in a flow restriction adjacent the outlet end, and a flow-splitter body physically dividing the flow. Sensor ports are provided on opposite sides of the flow-splitting body for the connection of a flow sensor to detect oscillations in the gas flow through the second section. A third section interconnects the outlet end of the first section with the inlet end of the second section and includes a flow-splitting partition aligned with the flow-splitting body. A flow-splitting member is provided at and adjacent the outlet end of the first section for dividing the flow from the interaction chamber prior to entry into the third section.

    • The regenerative heating apparatus (FIG. 1) comprises a pair of regenerators 51a and 51b arranged so that in use while one is being heated by waste gas, the other is preheating air for the combustion of fuel. A reversing valve 58 is connected to each lower end 91a and 91b of the regenerators 51a and 51b, the valve 58 connecting the regenerators 51a and 51b to an inlet 99 for receiving air and an outlet 100 for discharge of the waste gas. The reversing valve 58 is reversible to connect one regenerator to the inlet and the other regenerator to the outlet. Each regenerator incorporates at its upper end a burner (B1 and B2) with as shown in FIG. 2 a body having a passage 2 formed with openings 3 and 4. The opening 4 serves to receive air for combustion when its regenerator is preheating air or to discharge waste gas to the regenerator while the opening 3 serves to supply combusted fuel and air to the furnace 90 or to receive waste gas from the furnace 90. Each burner has an assembly 5 for injecting fuel and air into the passage 2 and the fuel and air first mix in a nozzle 31 with the fuel being ignited by an electrode 47. The fuel is combusted in a precombustion chamber 32 before entering the main combustion chamber 16. The fuel is partially or fully precombusted irrespective of the mode in which the burner is operating to avoid prepurging with or re-ignition between regenerator operating cycles.

    • A carburetor (2) to supply a mixture of fuel gas and combustion air to a reciprocating internal combustion engine. The carburetor has a venturi (4) and a throttle (10) including a throttle valve (24). A tear-drop shaped obstruction (36) is mounted in the venturi throat (18) on diametrically opposed radial arms (66). The narrowest part of the tubular gap (46) between the walls of venturi (4) and the obstruction (36) is at gap (48). A continuous slot (50) in the throat wall (18) encircles the obstruction and opens into gap (48). Another continuous slot (70) encircling the obstruction (36) is formed therein and also opens into the gap (48). Fuel gas is supplied to the slots (50 and 70) through passages (52, 74 and 72).
