摘要： A segmented retaining ring assembly, in which each segment has a generally L-shaped transverse cross section. Each segment includes first and second normally disposed legs, with the first leg when disposed in a first circumferentially extending groove in a cylindrical shell defining an abutment surface, and the second leg when positioned in a second circumferentially extending groove formed in an end piece assembly serving as an appendage for evenly distributing forces in a radial direction to the shell. The end piece assembly reduces the per unit stress on the shell as the former tends to separate from the latter due to a positive pressure within the confines of the shell. This reduction in per unit stress over prior art means of securing an end piece to a cylindrical shell is achieved by distributing the stresses over a greater area. The segmented retaining ring assembly permits an end piece to be easily mounted on or removed from a cylinder shell, when the shell is of the above described structure.

摘要： An assembly of at least two precision-fitted components, wherein at least one of the components is movable relative to the other, and a method of manufacturing the assembly. One of the components is formed directly on the other by techniques already known in connection with deposition of molecular layers when forming coatings, linings, and the like. However, the materials are selected so that the deposited molecular layers do not adhere to the surface on which they are deposited, or are provided with a strippable coating. As a result the two components will have perfectly complementary surfaces providing a perfect precision fit. Thus, it becomes possible to provide between a pair of components, at least one of which is movable relative to the other, a perfectly precise fit.

摘要： Bearings for the support of reciprocating members for operation under adverse conditions are disclosed having fluorocarbonplastic interfaces that are capable of withstanding high fluid pressures and temperatures. The bearings are self-healing in the event of a scratch or scoring at the interface. In one embodiment sleeve bearings for hydraulic rams are disclosed wherein the moving part has a thin coat of a fluorocarbon of high tensile strength and abrasion resistance and the other part comprises a plastic body or seal formed of a different plastic such as Buna N, or polyurethane and the like or comprises a plastic body or seal such as fiber glass impregnated with a fluorocarbon, graphite on canvas, Nylon, Delrin and the like. The thin coating of fluorocarbon is applied by spraying at a temperature of about 600* F and must be without subsequent sintering.

摘要： A fluid cylinder and piston assembly which comprises an elongated housing defining a fluid chamber to one end of which is secured an attaching member having an eye for securement to a force absorbing member and a piston and piston rod contained in the fluid chamber for reciprocation therein. The piston is welded to one end of the piston rod and the other end of the piston rod extends outwardly of the elongated fluid chamber and is provided with a screw-in attachment eye for securement to force transmitting member. At the rod end of the elongated housing a removable cartridge is provided carrying a rod seal for sealing the cylinder chamber and a retainer member or gland is screwed into the cartridge from the outside of the cylinder for protection and retainment of the rod seal carried by the removable cartridge and which is provided with a wiper seal to continuously wipe the surface of the piston rod. The screwed-in eye connection at the end of the piston rod is provided with a tapered surface engaging a tapered surface within the piston rod end to lock the eye attachment member to the piston rod in such fashion as to remove load stresses from the threaded connection.
