    • A process and apparatus for the continuous production of fiber reinforced plastic grating articles is provided wherein continuous strands of fibers are coated with a thermosetting plastic resin material and woven into a grate pattern defined by upper and lower molding teeth arranged on continuous upper and lower molding tracks. The molding tracks rotate and cause the molding teeth to mesh, forming a molding cavity, wherein heat is applied to set the plastic resin. The fiber reinforced plastic grating articles formed by this process and apparatus have a unique cross-sectional configuration and arrangement of fibers providing for increased strength and reduced resin usage.

    • An arrangement for perforation a stripe of a ductile material such as plastics or a ductile metal such as aluminum or copper and for forming a lattice of the stripe comprises a preferably rotating cutting roll, which cooperates with a holding-up tool. The cutting roll has at least one axially aligned row of cutting plates. Each cutting plate has a cutting edge and a partly cylindrical part, which forms a part of the cylindrical mantle surface of the cutting roll. In cooperation with the holding-up tool the cutting edges of the cutting plates make a row of slots in the stripe, whereupon the walls of the slots are extended in the longitudinal direction of the stripe, while the partly cylindrical parts of the cutting plates hold other parts of the stripe against the holding-up tool so as to form a lattice without changing the width of the stripe.

    • A method of making plastic screen where a plurality of pegs are vertically positioned within an open topped mold by passing a peg through each opening of a positioning screen member located above the mold, and a castable liquid plastic is then poured into the mold. The bottom ends of the pegs are tapered, so that the holes or openings in the finished plastic screen are flared. Metal reinforced plastic screen is made in the same manner, only a peg is positioned within each opening of a metal screen, whose openings are the same size as, and are in alignment with, the openings of the positioning screen member, the metal screen being positioned closely adjacent the mold bottom or base, and the liquid plastic is poured into the mold to a height above the metal screen. The pegs are smaller than the metal screen openings, so that no metal is exposed in the finished article.

    • A method of fabricating a reinforced plastic, apertured tube, such as a well screen, which includes the steps of providing an elongated strip of plastic material which will not bond to the plastic material from which the tube is formed, the strip having a base portion and an upstanding portion extending therefrom. The strip is wound on a mandrel with the base portion in engagement therewith and the upstanding portion forming a generally helical groove, and circumferentially spaced, longitudinally extending grooves are formed in the upstanding portion of the thus-wound strip. A multi-filament glass strand pre-wetted with heathardenable plastic material is wound in the helical groove and lengths of such strand are placed in the longitudinal grooves so as substantially to fill the helical and longitudinal grooves. The plastic material is then hardened while the strand and lengths are in the grooves and the strip is on the mandrel thereby to form a glass-reinforced plastic tube surrounding the base portion of the strip and with the upstanding portion of the strip embedded in the wall of the tube. The mandrel is then removed from the interior of the base portion of the wound strip and the strip is removed from the interior of the tube, removal of the upstanding portion of the strip from the wall of the tube leaving apertures therein.
