摘要： The present invention relates to an electrical connector with an electrically insulating contact carrier and with at least one electrically conducting contact element which is held in the contact carrier. Furthermore, the present invention relates to a manufacturing method for manufacturing a connector of this type. Changes in dimension in the geometry of the contact carrier and also fluctuations in spacing and geometry in the enclosing shielding cause impedance inhomogeneities in the signal propagation direction that adversely influence the signal quality. Furthermore, it may be necessary to purposefully set the impedance so as to differ from the nominal impedance. An electrical connector is therefore proposed with an electrically insulating contact carrier (102) and with at least one electrically conducting contact element (104) which is held in the contact carrier (102), wherein at least one impedance correction element (112, 116) is arranged in the contact carrier (102) for setting the impedance of the connector (100) in the region in which the at least one contact element (104) is arranged.

A circuit electrically couples each input terminal to the respective output terminal and cancels crosstalk induced across the adjacent connector terminals. The circuit includes four conductive paths between the respective pairs of terminals. The first and third paths are in relatively close proximity and are substantially spaced from the second and fourth paths. The second and fourth paths are in relatively close proximity.

摘要： The electrical connector assembly includes a female connector portion which is mountable to a first printed circuit board, such as a motherboard, and a male connector portion which is mechanically and electrically connected to a second printed circuit board, such as a daughterboard. The female connector portion includes a plurality of signal contacts arranged in two rows having a ground terminal, or conductive elastomer, positioned between the rows of signal contacts. The male connector portion preferably includes a flexible circuit having a solid groundplane separated by an dielectric insulator from an electrical trace thereon. The distance separating the groundplane from the trace and the width of the trace controls a characteristic impedance of the flexible circuit for matching to specific circuit requirements of the daughterboard and motherboard. Upon mechanical connection of the male connector portion to the female connector portion, the signal contacts electrically engage the trace on the flexible circuit and the groundplane electrically engages the ground terminal. The specific design of the connector assembly provides a controlled impedance, high signal contact density connector having reduced cross-talk and enhanced signal transmission, even at ultra high (UHF) signal transmission speeds.

摘要： A modular plug and multi-pair cable assembly provides reduced near-end crosstalk between two signal pairs of the cable. A modular plug has a plurality of wire-receiving passages disposed in first and second planar arrays spaced one above the other, with the passages of one planar array being staggered in position with respect to the passages of the other planar array. An end of a first wire of each of two signal pairs is received in respective wire-receiving passages of the first planar array and an end of a second wire of the two signal pairs is received in respective wire-receiving passages of the second planar array. A first pair plane in which the wire ends of the first signal pair are situated intersects a second pair plane in which the wire ends of the second signal pair are situated. In this manner crosstalk between the two signal pairs resulting from magnetic and electric field coupling is reduced.

An interceptor plate (60, FIG. 2) which is grounded or at another controlled potential, extends along each row of contacts (34), the plate lying close to the row to provide better capacitive coupling between each contact and the plate than between contacts of the same or different rows. The space between each contact leg and an adjacent interceptor plate, contains a dielectric whose dielectric constant varies by no more than four per cent between 1 kHz and 100 MHz. The capacitance between each contact and an adjacent interception plate is at least three times the capacitance between adjacent contacts of a row.

摘要： A matched impedance printed circuit board connector comprising a housing mounted on a mounting board having a ground plane and signal traces separated by an insulator. A grounding bus extends lengthwise in the housing below the printed circuit board receiving slot therein. Signal contacts in the housing are mounted in plated through holes in the mounting board which are connected to the signal traces. The grounding bus has mounting portions which are mounted in other plated through holes in the board which are joined to the ground plane. Ground contacts are also provided in the housing which are mounted in additional plated through holes which are also joined to the ground plane so that the ground contacts and grounding bus are electrically interconnected. Preferably two such ground contacts are positioned on opposite sides of the signal contacts.
