    • A personal computer having an interactive all points addressable display thermal (44) and a cursor positioning device (52) is provided with apparatus for facilitating the generation of a graphics display. At least one table of selectable cursor characters is stored in memory (16), and from this table, any character can be selected to be the cursor character. The selected character is displayed as the cursor and movable to any point on the all points addressable display by the cursor positioning device. Once the current cursor character is at a desired point on the display, it is fixed in that position by reading the position and cursor data into the display buffer of the display terminal.

    • Disclosed is a synchronizer for establishing synchronism between horizontal and vertical sync pulses of a non-interlaced video signal and those of an interlaced video signal, the number of non-interlaced scan lines being smaller by 2n-1 than the interlaced scan lines, where n is an integer equal to or greater than unity. Two variable frequency clocks are generated, one having a higher frequency variable as a function of a phase difference between the horizontal sync pulses of the two video signals and the other having one half the higher frequency. A first period is defined which runs from a non-interlaced horizontal sync of first occurrence in a given field to a horizontal sync of (n-1)th occurrence in the given field and a second period is defined that runs from the non-interlaced horizontal sync of first occurrence in a subsequent field to a horizontal sync of n-th occurrence in the subsequent field. The higher frequency clock is normally used to generate the non-interlaced horizontal and vertical sync and the lower frequency clock is used instead when vertical sync pulses of the two video signals are mismatched in phase and during the first and second periods to compensate for the difference in scan line number.

    • Time multiplexed signal communications between a host computer and subordinate data processing terminals include coded and noncoded information. Coded information originated by the host includes entry-separation marker signals. Individual marker signals are used at terminals to control access to associated particular time spaces of the multiplex frame. The host signals are serially stored by addressed terminals in the time sequence of transmission. The stored marker signals are protected from modification at terminals and control write-in access to storage spaced allocated to the associated time segments; thereby controlling terminal editing operations. Edited information in unprotected terminal storage spaces is easily segregated -- e.g., for compact transmission to the host -- by reference to the stored marker signals. When the non-coded signals comprise raster scanned picture information displayable at terminal display apparatus the markers are used to generate cursors indicating edit-accessible positions (e.g., character entry spaces). A distinct displaced cursor provides unique indication of the space next accessible for entry in a normal keying (i.e., typing) sequence.
