    • In a coin sorting device which rolls a coin along a sorting passage and which carries out a sorting operation for the coin during movement of the coin, it is readily possible to remove unnecessary material from the sorting passage. The unnecessary material may be surface material which is separated from the coin. If the unnecessary material is left in the sorting passage, it becomes one of factors which cause an error in the sorting operation. Inasmuch as the unnecessary material can be readily removed from the sorting passage, reliability is improved as regards the sorting operation. For removing the unnecessary material, a plurality of through holes may be made to a bottom of the sorting passage. A roller member may be used at the bottom of the sorting passage instead of making the through holes.

    • A coin separator includes first and second coin passages separated and defined in part by a plate having an elongated hole disposed lengthwise in the downward direction of coin movement. The diameter of the elongated hole is less than large diameter coins and greater than smaller diameter coins which are to be sorted. The plate is attachable to and detachable from the casing for cleaning and repair purposes, and a lower portion of the elongated hole has arcuate cutouts on both sides of a lower portion of the plate which projects upwardly in opposite relationship to downward coin movement. The peripheries of the arcuate cutouts and the upwardly projecting plate portion are tapered upwardly in cross-section which in conjunction with a tongue having a lower end movable into and out of the elongated hole assure that bent and/or deflected coins of small diameter pass through the appropriate coin passage.

The device has a slot for coins, a subsequently-arranged storage channel, a return slot, and a coin-collecting opening. A spiral spring for receiving respective coins between adjacent turns of the spring is disposed in the storage channel. The spring can be rotated at least one full turn in either direction by a motor. In order structurally to simplify and reduce the space required by such devices, which can be used either as intermediate storage devices or as remaining-money storage devices, the storage channel is constructed as a lateral guide for the spiral spring, and the return slot is offset relative to the money slot by at least one pitch of the spiral spring. The money slot is disposed on one side of the storage channel, and the return slot is disposed on the other side thereof.

    • There is provided an improved device for adjusting a coin passage of a coin handling machine, wherein two coin selection guides defining the coin passage are moved relative to each other. The device comprises two sliders connected respectively to the two coin selection guides, a link pivoted at the point substantially centrally of the longitudinal extension thereof and having ends connected to the sliders for resiliently urging the ends of the link to engage members respectively fixed to the sliders and a cam abutting directly or indirectly against one of the ends of the link for moving the same by a pre-set distance in response to the change in diameter of the coins to be passed through the coin passage. By the use of the device according to the invention, said sliders are moved in the directions reverse to each other by the same distance so as to move the associated coin selection guides to increase or decrease the width of the coin passage without changing the longitudinal center line of the passage. Malfunction of the machine including jamming and false stacking of the coins caused by the misalignment of the center axes of the coin passage and the coin receiving accumulator tube can be advantageously precluded by the use of the device of the invention.
