    • A container and method for transporting finely divided coal in rail cars or other cargo hauling vehicles, the container having a generally flexible and substantially oxygen impermeable barrier defining an encapsulated cavity. A port, including a coupling adapted to substantially prevent exposing the finely divided coal to oxygen, is positioned in the container for passing a flowable material through the barrier. The container also including a cap for sealing the port, a one-way pressure activated valve positioned in the barrier preventing gases in the cavity, and a harness for supporting the barrier and defining the shape of the cavity. The method generally having the initial steps of removing most of the oxygen from the cavity of the container, and adjusting the shape of the cavity to conform to the type of rail car that is being used to haul the finely divided coal. The method having the additional steps of filling the container with finely divided coal at a centralized collection site; sealing the container to substantially prevent introducing oxygen into the coal; loading the filled container into a rail car; hauling the container to a location where finely divided coal is used; unloading the container at the coal burning facility; and emptying the finely divided coal from the container at a location where the coal is used.

    • A device for collecting, compressing and discharging loose material, the device being formed from a body of flexible material having a self-sustaining, scoop-shape. The body has a flat bottom, lateral sides, and an open top. The bottom merges with the lateral sides at one of the ends of the body to form a flat edge thereat, and at its other end, the body has an end wall extending upright from the bottom. The lateral sides have upper edges extending from the flat edge upwardly to an upper edge of the end wall thereby defining an open, interior cavity adapted for receiving loose material therein. The lateral sides and the bottom are joined to the end wall by fold lines forming stabilizing corners which provide the self-sustaining shape of the body while the flexible material of the body allows the lateral sides to be overlapped on one another to compress and confine the loose material in the cavity. When the lateral sides are overlapped on one another, an opening is formed from which the compressed, loose material can be discharged into a receptacle.

    • A Locomotive fuel service truck is disclosed which comprises a motor vehicle having an elongated frame, a crane arm carried on the frame, at least one fuel pump carried by the frame connectable to a fuel oil storage tank and a fuel hose having one end connected to the pump and another end adapted to fit into a railroad diesel locomotive fuel tank, and at least one removable sand hopper carried on the frame connectable to said crane arm. The crane arm is adapted to lift and position the sand hopper over a sand pot on a diesel locomotive while fuel is being dispensed from a fuel storage tank to a locomotive fuel tank. The fuel oil storage tank may be located underground or on a trailer towed by the service truck. Another embodiment of the service truck includes a fuel oil storage tank carried on the truck frame so that the service truck can completely supply all materials and fluids to replenish a diesel locomotive without having to bring additional trucks to the site of the locomotive. Both embodiments carry air compressors, welders and equipment sufficient to perform minor maintenance and repair activities on site without having to disconnect the locomotive from the train of train cars. A reusable sand hopper bag is also disclosed having a sliding gate plate discharge valve assembly which fastens to a flanged upper end of a sand transfer hose for filling the locomotive sand pots.

    • A fabric bag for handling dry bulk cargo is disclosed, of the type in which four sides, a top and bottom are assembled to approximate the shape of a right quadrilateral prism. A continuous fabric liner is provided inside the bag and four corner baffles are sewn into the liner so as to offset a portion of the lateral outward loading due to the dry bulk cargo and thereby reduce bulging of the bag sides. Since the baffles are stitched only to the liner, and not to the outer sides of the bags, this leaves the central portions of the bag sides free of stitching and available for improved display of graphic or textual material.
