    • An image pickup unit includes: an image pickup section including a plurality of pixels, the pixels each including a photoelectric transducer and a field-effect transistor; and a drive section switching the transistor between an on operation and an off operation to perform a read operation and a reset operation of a signal charge accumulated in each of the pixels. The transistor includes a first gate electrode and a second gate electrode with a semiconductor layer in between, the drive section applies a first voltage and a second voltage to the first gate electrode and the second gate electrode of the transistor, respectively, to switch the transistor between the on operation and the off operation, and the drive section adjusts timings of switching the first and second voltages between an on-voltage and an off-voltage, on-voltage values of the first and second voltages, or both thereof to be different from each other.

    • An image sensor that has a plurality of pixels within a pixel array coupled to a control circuit and to one or more subtraction circuits. The control circuit causes an output transistor coupled to a pixel to provide a first reference output signal, a common reset output signal, and a first sense-node reset output signal, between which a subtraction circuit may form a weighted difference to create a noise signal. The control circuit causes the output transistor to provide a second sense-node reset output signal, a light response output signal and a second reference output signal, between which a subtraction circuit may form a weighted difference to create a normalized light response signal. The light response output signal corresponds to the image that is to be captured by the sensor. The noise signal is subtracted from the normalized light response signal to generate a de-noised signal.

    • To remove reset noise in pixels while the circuit configuration is kept in low power consumption, a device includes pixels arranged in row and column directions, in which each of the pixels includes a charge-voltage conversion terminal for voltage-converting signal charges transferred from a photoelectric conversion element, and a first reset means for resetting a voltage at the charge-voltage conversion terminal; first signal lines, each of which is connected to the pixels in each column; a scanning means for selecting one row among others; and a second reset means for resetting voltages at the signal lines. In the device, on each selected row, by voltage signals at the charge-voltage conversion terminals and the converted voltage signals from the transferred signal charges are read out to and stored in the signal lines in a floating potential state, and then are output.
