摘要： A convenient, trouble-proof, economical identification of a place, especially for remote-controlled navigation of a vehicle through a traffic network, is made possible by a terminal unit, a central bureau and a method for identifying a name by means of a terminal unit, especially for identifying an interrogated name of a starting location or destination or current location of a route in a navigation terminal unit based on a plurality of characters which are a component of the name and are interrogated in the terminal unit as a character string, wherein it is determined whether or not the interrogated character string corresponds to the start of a character string contained in a list of exceptions, this latter character string being contained in a plurality of names, wherein the user is asked to enter additional characters of the name when it is determined that the interrogated character string is contained in the exception list, while a process for unambiguous identification is introduced without further characters of the name being entered when it is determined that the interrogated character string is not contained in the exception list.

摘要： In an Interactive Real-Time Distributed Navigation system a method and system is disclosed for implementing a warm start/cold start option. Through selection of the warm start option, an interactive session for providing navigational directions to a user is more quickly established because a user's position is assumed not to be ambiguous. A method of the invention verifies this assumption. Through selection of the cold start option, the method of the invention seeks to remove ambiguity in a user's position before providing navigational directions. If, however, a user's position is not ambiguous, the method of the invention reverts to a warm start condition to immediately transmit navigational directions to the user.

摘要： A method and apparatus for selecting a destination in a vehicle navigation system are described. The vehicle navigation system includes a display and a selection control. A first destination is selected from a primary list of destinations in response to a selection signal generated by the selection control. The first destination is placed on a secondary list of destinations in response to its selection. The secondary list includes previously selected destinations from the primary list. For subsequent destination selections, the primary and secondary lists are presented on the display thereby facilitating selection of destinations from both the primary and secondary lists. A feature by which the system may search for a destination across categories is also described.

A judgment area setter is provided for setting, with respect to the pass-through point, a judgment area that enables the user to select whether route guidance to the pass-through point is necessary. A controller provides control of the overall system while permitting the user's selection of whether the guidance to the pass-through point is necessary when the present vehicle position is within the judgment area, thereby facilitating guidance changeover to the route segment next following the pass-through point, without need to actually enter the pass-through judgment area near the pass-through point. Also disclosed is a storage medium operatively associated with the navigation apparatus, having encoded thereon one or more programs as required for such route guidance control procedures.
