    • An electronically stored financial document is either maintained in a first storage system when a parameter associated with the document is greater than a pre-selected parameter or in a second storage system when the parameter associated with the document is less than or equal to the pre-selected parameter. A request for a stored financial document is received and the requested financial document parameter is compared to the pre-selected financial document parameter to determine if the electronically stored financial document's parameter is more than, less than, or equal to the pre-selected parameter. In processing the request, a processing unit compares and electronically accesses one of the storage systems in response to the comparison of the pre-selected parameter to the electronically stored financial document's parameters. After accessing the appropriate storage system, the requested electronically stored financial document can be reproduced, and/or distributed.

    • System and method embodiments are provided for multi-version support in indexes in a database. The embodiments enable substantially optimized multi-version support in index and avoid backfill of commit log sequence number (LSN) for a transaction identifier (TxID). In an embodiment, a method in a data processing system for managing a database includes determining with the data processing system whether a record is deleted according to a delete indicator in an index leaf page record corresponding to the record; and determining with the data processing system, when the record is not deleted, whether the record is visible according to a new record indicator in the index leaf page record and according to a comparison of a system commit TxID at the transaction start with a record commit TxID obtained from the index leaf page record.

    • A technique for improving the performance of RCU-based searches and updates to a shared data element group where readers must see consistent data with respect to the group as a whole. An updater creates one or more new group data elements and assigns each element a new generation number that is different than a global generation number associated with the data element group, allowing readers to track update versions. The updater links the new data elements into the data element group and then updates the global generation number so that referential integrity is maintained. This is done using a generation number element that is referenced by a header pointer for the data element group, and which in turn references or forms part of one of the data elements. After a grace period has elapsed, the any prior version of the generation number element may be freed.

    • A distributed data warehouse system maintains data blocks on behalf of clients, and stores primary and secondary copies of data blocks on different disks or nodes in a cluster. The data warehouse system may back up data blocks in a key-value backup storage system. In response to a query targeting a data block previously stored in the cluster, the data warehouse system may determine whether a consistent, uncorrupted copy of the data block is available in the cluster (e.g., by applying a consistency check). If not (e.g., if a disk or node failed), the data warehouse system may automatically initiate an operation to restore the data block from the backup storage system, using a unique identifier of the data block to access a backup copy. The target data may be returned in a query response prior to restoring primary and secondary copies of the data block in the cluster.
