    • When the operating pedal and the pivot member are connected by the connecting links, roll caulking is performed on the tip portions of the shafts of the connecting pins, with the shafts passing through the connecting pin through holes of the connecting links, and also through the metal bush of the operating pedal or the metal bush of the pivot member. Accordingly, by plastic deformation, the tip portions have a larger diameter to give the disengagement-preventing portions, in such a manner that a predetermined space ρ is formed between the disengagement-preventing portions and the components that are connected by the connecting pins, respectively. Consequently, unlike the conventional, ordinary caulking, owing to the presence of the space ρ, relative pivotal movement is allowed between the components that are connected by the connecting pins. Therefore, the forming process of the disengagement-preventing portions for the connecting pins, that is, roll caulking, can be easily automated. Further, a disengagement-preventing component, such as E ring, is not required, and a slot or the like for installing the component on the shafts of the connecting pins does not have to be formed. Accordingly, the link connecting structures of a pedal device for a vehicle can be constructed with a small number of components at low cost.

    • In an activation device for controlling the power of a vehicle drive having a foot pedal, in which the foot pedal is pivotably mounted such that it can abut against a rigid end stop, a switching element which can be displaced by the pivoting movement of the foot pedal is mounted ahead of the end stop in the pivoting path of the foot pedal. The displacement of the switching element requires a reaction force which originates from the switching element to be overcome. The intention is to prevent or reduce a possible abutting noise which can occur when the foot pedal impacts on the switching element at a high impact speed. The device includes a spring element connected ahead of the switching element in the pivoting path of the foot pedal. The spring force of the spring element is less than the reaction force originating from the switching element for a displacement by the foot pedal.

    • A rotatable grip (ancillary operation member) is provided on a part of a steering wheel body of a steering wheel (main operation member) for turning wheels. When the grip is rotated, a difference is generated between left and right wheels, and a yaw moment generated with this difference can assist or suppress the turning of a vehicle. Because the grip constitutes a part of the steering wheel body, it is possible to rotate the grip to assist or suppress the turning of the vehicle, while operating the steering wheel to turn the vehicle. Because both the steering wheel body and the grip can be operated by the same hand of a driver, operational burden on the driver is alleviated. Thus, it is possible to concurrently provide an excellent operability of the main operation member for controlling a kinetic state of the vehicle, and an excellent operability of the ancillary operation member for controlling the operation of a yaw moment generating device.

    • An arrangement and method for releasing an automotive pedal in a crash includes mounting a pedal pivot pin by separable housing pieces fit to the pin to support the pedal for normal operation. One of the housing pieces is hinged to be able to swing away when disconnected from the other housing piece in a crash to release the pedal. The housing pieces are held together by locking clips gripping abutting upper portions of the housing pieces, the clips in turn held in position by a blocking portion of a retainer which is shifted in a crash to allow the clips to disengage. The surfaces gripped by the clips are sloped so that a reaction force on the pin creates a disengaging force on the clips to produce a very rapid release of the clips when the retainer is shifted in a crash. The retainer is located in its clip retention position by locating elements which are sheared off in a crash.

    • An adjustable pedal assembly includes a mounting arrangement (1) for attachment to a vehicle structure (37), an accelerator pedal (6), a brake pedal (7), and a clutch pedal (8). The pedals (6, 7, 8) are pivotally supported with respect to the mounting arrangement (1) and define a first pivot axis (9). An adjustment element (5) is pivotally supported with respect to the mounting structure (1) and defines a second pivot axis (4). The adjustment element (5) selectively moves the pedals (6, 7, 8) between a plurality of operable positions. The adjustable pedal assembly is characterized by the pedals (6, 7, 8) being pivotally supported with respect to the adjustment element (5) wherein the second pivot axis (4) is generally parallel to the first pivot axis (9). A driving mechanism with an electric motor (11) and gear assembly (12) is used to rotate the adjustment element (5) about the second pivot axis (4). The pedals (6, 7, 8) are pivotally mounted within the adjustment element (5) to pivot about the first pivot axis (9), thus the first pivot axis (9) moves with respect to the second pivot axis (4) when the adjustment element (5) is rotated.

    • A portable power source (10) includes a housing (12), a stator component (20), a rotor component (18), a crank assembly (14), and a control system (24). The stator component (20) is secured to the housing (12), the rotor component (18) rotates relative to the stator component (20) and the crank assembly (14) is coupled to the rotor component (18). The crank assembly (14) is rotated by the user relative to the housing (12). As provided herein, rotation of the crank assembly (14) by the user results in rotation of the rotor component (18) relative to the stator component (20). In one embodiment, the control system (24) controls the amount of torque required to rotate the crank assembly (14). For example, the amount of torque required to rotate the crank assembly (14) is varied according to the rotational position of the crank assembly (14). In one embodiment, the crank assembly (14) includes a one-way drive mechanism assembly (725) that allows for unidirection rotation of the rotor component (18) and pedals (708A) (708B) that move up and down.
