    • Upon setting of a halftone process of an initial setting, there is such a problem that graininess deteriorates due to an aging change or an environmental change. To solve this problem, an image processing apparatus executes a halftone process on a test image for tone correction and prints the processed test image; forms a tone correction table in accordance with read values from the printed test image; obtains graininess from a read value of a low density portion of a tone correction patch of the test image for the tone correction; discriminates whether the obtained graininess exceeds a predetermined reference level; and changes a setting of the halftone process so as to reduce the graininess when it is discriminated that the obtained graininess exceeds the predetermined reference level.

    • An electrophotographic image forming apparatus performs latent image rendering using a plurality of light sources. The electrophotographic image forming apparatus includes a rendering time control unit that controls a latent image rendering start time for each of the light sources, a scanning time control unit that controls a scanning start time for each of the light sources, a pattern forming unit that forms a pixel pattern corresponding to pixel pattern data defined in advance on a photosensitive member, and a density detection unit that detects a density of the pixel pattern formed on the photosensitive member. The rendering time control unit and the scanning time control unit respectively control the rendering start time and the scanning start time for each of the light sources using a density value detected by the density detection unit.

    • In an apparatus which forms an adjustment toner image outside an image area in a direction orthogonal to a moving direction of an image bearing member, a toner change amount of the adjustment toner image which is directly transferred onto and adheres to a transfer roller without interposing a recording medium differs depending on a transfer electric field. Since the transfer electric field is in a direction for reversing a charging polarity of the toner, when the transfer electric field is large, the toner charge amount of the adjustment toner image is reduced. Therefore, in case that the transfer electric field is large, the cleaning electric field is set small. Thereby the toner of the adjustment toner image can be sufficiently cleaned off by an electrostatic cleaning member irrespective of the transfer voltage, and contamination on a back side of a recording material can be avoided.
