    • A system for measuring the sweep of an object, particularly logs, where sweep may be defined as the spatial deviation of the actual center line of the log from an imaginary line drawn as if the log had been perfectly true. The system utilizes two light sensitive detectors, placed at a distance from the log and spaced apart at a substantial angle. Each sensor obtains information concerning the cross-section of the log relative to the sensor''s location. Known methods of triangulation, utilizing the information obtained from the two sensors, are then used to determine the center point of the log at a first location of the log. Successive determinations are then made of the log at predetermined intervals, and the results compared with those of first location to determine the sweep at the successive log locations.

In the optical path between the objective and eyepiece of the telescope is mounted a first prism whose upper edge divides the field of view into an upper and a lower part. A pendulum drum carries a measuring scale and is so arranged in the telescope housing that the visual rays of the lower part of the field of view are focused on a measuring scale section which is viewed in the lower part while the upper part of the field of view is covered by the portion of the distant object to which the telescope is directed.

    • An arrangement and method for measuring a piece of timber in a wood handling machine, wherein the piece is grabbed by a cutting head arranged to a set of booms in the wood handling machine, and the dimensions of the piece are measured by at least one measuring device in the wood handling machine. A measuring signal field formed by one or more measuring beams is also directed to the piece of timber with a monitoring device utilizing contact-free measurement, and a point cloud to be stored is provided by the measuring signal field it produces. The parts to be identified are identified from this point cloud, and a quantity to be measured is defined and formed of the information content of the point cloud. The obtained result is directed to a measuring system in the wood handling machine for further utilization.
