摘要： In a freeze-concentrating apparatus, an aqueous solution is cooled by a cooling cylinder 22 serving as a heat exchanger for cooling to continuously produce a suspension containing ice crystals. A liquid component is separated and discharged from the suspension to increase the ratio of the ice crystals, and the ice crystals are grown to produce a column-shaped ice cake. The ice cake is cut into an ice pillar of a given length and a concentrated solution is taken out from the ice pillar.

摘要： A freeze crystallization concentration system is disclosed for separating a liquid feed stream into a more purified liquid and a concentrate in which only a single pass through a freeze-crystallizer and ice separator is required. The crystallizer, which converts the initial feed stream into a slurry of ice and concentrate, includes a scraped surface heat exchanger that produces, pumps and removes an ice slurry and uses a secondary cooling system to ensure that the crystallizer will operate in any required position and is not sensitive to motion. The separator includes a rotating drum which separates the ice crystals from the surrounding concentrate by the use of centrifugal force and without the use of screens or filters. An auger, rotating at a different speed than the drum, may be located at the center of the drum for removing the ice crystals. A second drum, attached to the first drum, removes the concentrate with a stationary pivot tube under pressure created by the centrifugal force, without the concentrate being exposed to air. The ice crystals can then be conducted to the wash column to be separated from the remaining concentrate, grown and melted into pure water. The concentrate exiting the separator can be either removed from the system or a small amount can be diverted back to the crystallizer to be mixed with the feed stream from the wash column if a higher concentration is required.

摘要： An orbital rod drive arrangement for an orbital tube whip rod heat exchanger includes a single drive plate driving a plurality of countercranks, each countercrank supporting a whip rod from its upper end within a tube as it is driven in an orbital manner. The countercrank provides for balancing the whip rods within the tubes by mounting them in an offset manner. Furthermore, the whip rod is suspended as well as driven at its upper end to thereby leave the lower ends of the tubes unobstructed for the free flow of process fluid out the bottom of the tube. The countercrank includes an upper peripheral lip for supporting a single drive plate and the countercrank may be supported by the tube sheet which mounts the uniformly spaced tubes in the heat exchanger vessel. Variations are disclosed for the countercrank including providing different numbers of holes in the countercrank for balancing the whip rod mass about the circumference of the countercrank. Variations are disclosed for supporting the drive plate, supporting the countercrank, and the shape of the countercrank. Variations are also disclosed for the driving connection between the drive plate and countercranks.

摘要： A compact, efficient, and economical ice machine is provided which allows rapid production of ice chips. The preferred ice machine includes an elongated, flexible member formed as an endless loop which is rotated through a freezing tube by means of a harvesting pulley. The freezing tube includes an evaporator therearound in order to freeze water in the tube and around the flexible member portion located therein. After an ice column is formed, hot refrigerant gas passes through the evaporator to loosen the ice column from the tube interior whereupon the pulley rotates to withdraw the flexible member portion from the freezing tube and the ice column attached thereto upwardly therefrom. The ice breaking element adjacent the pulley engages the ice column and fractures it into ice chips as the flexible portion passes over the pulley.

The machine comprises a platform which is lengthwise adjustable, at least four rollers which have an adjustable distance support container, a driving means to drive the rollers and rotate the container, a scraping means disposed on the shaft of the container to scrape freezing slush or ice cream and to be used as a second safety means, and a first safety means which comprises a base plate, a control plate and a flexible element engaged together. When the slush or ice cream is hard enough, the control plate and the flexible element will rotate respective to the base plate so that the shaft will rotate together with the container. Further, even if the first safety means is out of order, the scraping means will free from the shaft of the container, then the scraping means will rotate together with the container in order to be used as a second safety means.
