摘要： A contact bar for slidably contacting the liner of a single-faced corrugated paperboard sheet to press the flute tips of the sheet against a rotating glue roll without crushing the flute tips. The contact bar includes an elongate frame mounted opposite and in spaced-apart relation from the rotating glue roll. A series of shoes are pivotally connected to the frame and depend therefrom defining a predetermined clearance from the outer surface of the rotating glue roll. The shoes are biased by springs to cause the shoes to slidably contact the liner and press the flute tips against the rotating glue roll. The shoes may be formed of cold-rolled steel providing a reasonably long expected service life and also having an abrasion resistance so that conformance of the shoe contact surfaces with the rotating glue roll and a single-faced sheet occurs in a relatively short time caused by abrasion with the slidably contacting single-faced sheet.

摘要： A portable coating apparatus is described for use with a paper converting machine such as a corrugated paperboard double-backer. Rotational power to drive gravure, transfer and smoothing rolls is extracted from the converting machine supply web by an S-wrap through the loaded nip between a pair of drive rolls. A low-powered auxiliary drive motor is automatically engaged to keep the gravure and transfer rolls conditioned with coating during brief intervals of web feed cessation. The entire unit is constructed on a space frame that is supported by caster wheels to facilitate movement to and from an appropriate converting machine position which may be between the reeled web supply unwind stand and a web preheating drum station leading into a double-backing machine.

摘要： A smooth surface applicator roll dips into glue in a vat and applies the glue to the crests of the corrugations of a corrugated paper web traveling around a support roll above the vat. A doctor roll is located beside the applicator roll above the glue level in the vat and is pressed against the side of the applicator roll that carries glue upwardly. The doctor roll is rotated in the same direction as the applicator roll to remove glue from it. The doctor roll is provided with grooves extending around it so that laterally spaced strips of glue are left on the applicator roll between the areas of the latter from which glue is removed by the doctor roll. As a result, longitudinally spaced areas of glue are applied to the crest of each paper corrugation by the smooth surface applicator roll.
