    • A punching tool for green sheets or similar sheet-like work-pieces having a support plate with punched holes (7), and a holding-down plate disposed above the support plate and containing stripper openings (24). Operative portions (23) of dies (8) extend through the stripper openings (24) and are guided therein. The operative portions (23) are formed in graduated form with a punching portion (26) of reduced diameter. Each punching portion (26) has a length that is less than the length of the stripper opening (24), and is located entirely in the stripper opening (24) when the die (8) is at its top dead center. A part (25) of the operative portion (23) protrudes into the stripper opening (24) to guide the die (8). The punching portion (26) is only approximately as long as required for the punching stroke of the die (8). The slight length of the punching portion (26) makes possible an especially slender punching portion, and thus the creation of especially small punched holes.

    • A fully addressable vacuum/positive pressure roller may select and remove pattern pieces that have been severed or cut from a web or sheet of flexible material even though the pattern pieces are still embedded within the web, both being supported on a common surface. Vacuum rollers may be disposed along the path of an advancing web with the rollers being oriented such that each roller's axis of rotation is both orthogonal to the advance direction of the web and orthogonal to the surface normal of the web so that the web travels around at least a portion of the arc of each roller. The vacuum roller for conveying the web or sheet type material includes an external surface having a plurality of apertures there through. A plurality of addressable valves are in corresponding fluid communication with the plurality of apertures. By controlling the state of each of the plurality of valves, the user may selectively address each valve independently in order to achieve a desired state of each of the valves at all times and/or positions during operation.

    • A bristle cleaner station for a conveyorized sheet material cutting machine includes a plurality of air jets that direct pressurized air between downwardly extending bristles of a bristle bed to dislodge debris; and a vacuum chamber adjacent to the bristles to draw away the dislodged debris. The preferred embodiment uses air needles that extend into downward extending bristles to riffle or bend the bristles, making an enlarged space between them. The air needles direct pressurized air into the enlarged space to dislodge debris, and an upwardly open vacuum channel adjacent to the air needles and bristles collects the dislodged debris. A method to clean bristle beds is also disclosed whereby pressurized air is directed between the bristles and vacuum draws away dislodged debris.
