    • An improved exercise device including a sole with an upper surface on which a wearer's foot rests and a lower partially ground contacting surface. The sole has a heel, a midfoot, a forefoot and a toe region such that when the heel region lower surface and the forefoot region lower surface are in ground contact, the upper surface does not incline upwards from the forefoot to the heel region. The forefoot lower surface of the sole is generally radiused in a cylindrical curve about the line connecting the mid points of the first and second metatarsal-phalangeal joints of the wearer. When the wearer contracts their calf muscles, the heel section is lifted away from the ground, requiring work against gravity.

    • The invention provides a calf exerciser which safely duplicates the desirable aspects of stair-edge toe lifts. The present exerciser allows a user to transition from a fully contracted position (a "tip-toe" stance) to a fully extended position (much as if one's heels were dropped below the level of the stair on which one rests his or her forefoot to the extent allowed by the exerciser's flexibility). A pivoting forefoot plate pivots with the user's forefoot as he or she transitions between the extended and contracted limits of the toe lift cycles. This eliminates the presentation at any phase of the exercise cycle of a sharp edge (like a stair-edge) to the foot, as well as insures that the user's forefoot (or corresponding shoe portion) remains squarely and safely in contact with a stable surface, despite inherent rocking motion of the feet during each toe lift cycle. The forefoot plate is biased toward the position for the extended phase of a toe lift exercise, so that the transition through the exercise is smooth and safe, and to provide a bit more resistance when transitioning toward the contracted phase of the exercise.

    • The leg and ankle exercise device has a foot member rotatable attached to a pair of attachment arms which extend from and are attached to a leg member.     • An exercise machine for exercising the muscles of the front of the lower leg. The exercise machine includes a frame that supports a seat and a pivot shaft such that a user seated on the seat can rest his heels on the pivot shaft. An exercise arm is fixedly attached to the pivot shaft such that pivoting of the exercise arm causes rotation of the pivot shaft. An exercise bar which is parallel to the pivot shaft is attached to the exercise arm, and is spaced from the pivot shaft such that the user can slide the tops of his feet under the exercise bar with his heels resting on the pivot shaft. A cable and pulley system connect the pivot shaft to a stack of weights to thereby provide resistance to the pivoting of the foot about the heels. A hand lever linked to the pivot shaft raises the arm to allow the user to more easily position the tops of the feet under the bar.
