    • An orthotic protective device collectively including a base unit connected to a metacarpal unit by a hinge system designed to protect and prevent hyperextension and hyperflexion movements of the metacarpal, carpal, radius and ulna regions. The base unit and metacarpal unit includes a longitudinal support member and a casing, respectively, lined with at least one pad having a tongue. At least one releasable fastener is mated to the support member and casing and extends to the tongue of the pad. Apertures of the base unit are mated and connected to apertures of the hinge system which form an articulated joint allowing the hinge system to move in an upward manner allowing for natural extension of the user's wrist and in a downward fashion for unlimited flexion motion. The base unit and the hinge system may both have at least one stop formed thereon; and as these stops come into contact with one another, it limits the flexion, extension and radial-ulnar deviation. Further, an aperture of the metacarpal unit is mated and fastened to an aperture in the hinge system by a swivel joint which allows for lateral movement of the user's wrist.

    • An orthosis is operable to vary the extent of supination or pronation of a hand connected with an arm of a patient. The orthosis includes a lower cuff which grips distal end portions of the ulna and radius in a lower portion of the arm of the patient. An upper cuff grips an upper portion of the arm of the patient. A drive assembly is operable to rotate the lower cuff and the distal end portions of the ulna and radius about an axis which extends through the wrist and elbow of the arm of the patient while the upper portion of the arm of the patient is held against movement by the upper cuff. The drive assembly includes a main gear which is connected with the lower cuff and a base of the orthosis. The lower cuff extends through a central opening in the main gear and is rotatable with the main gear about the axis which extends through the wrist and elbow of the patient. A second drive assembly may be provided to move sections of the base relative to each other to bend the elbow of the patient.

First and second foot brackets are connected to the foot plate via first and second fastening means, respectively. First and second torque applying means are connected to the first and second foot brackets and the first and second ankle brackets, respectively. The first torque applying means applies torque between the first foot bracket and the first ankle bracket, while the second torque applying means supplies torque between the second foot bracket and the second ankle bracket. Calf securing means are connected to the first and second ankle brackets for securing the first and second ankle brackets to a calf of the patient. A plurality of ankle straps are connected to the first and second pivot means for securing the first and second foot brackets and the first and second ankle brackets to an ankle of the patient.
