    • In an exemplary embodiment of the invention, a semiconductor light-emitting element includes a first semiconductor layer having a first conduction type, a second semiconductor layer having a second conduction type, an active layer provided between the first and second semiconductor layers. The semiconductor light-emitting element also includes a polarity inversion layer provided on the second semiconductor layer, and a third semiconductor layer provided on the polarity inversion layer. The third semiconductor layer has the second conduction type. The crystal orientations of the first through third semiconductor layers are inverted, with the polarity inversion layer serving as a boundary. The first and third semiconductor layers have uppermost surfaces that are made from polar faces having common constitutional elements. Hexagonal conical protrusions arising from a crystal structure are formed at the outermost surfaces of the first and third semiconductor layers. The first through third semiconductor layers are made from a wurtzite-structure group III nitride semiconductor, and are layered along the C-axis direction of the crystal structure. In another embodiment, the polar faces may be made from nitrogen atoms. The hexagonal conical protrusions may be formed by wet etching.

    • A method for judging feature of malignant tumor is described herein. The method comprises obtaining step, first comparing step, second comparing step, and judging step. The obtaining step comprises obtaining a first parameter based on activity and expression level of a first CDK contained in a tumor cell of the malignant tumor, a second parameter based on activity and expression level of a second CDK contained in the tumor cell, a third parameter based on the first parameter and the second parameter, and a fourth parameter based on expression level of a growth factor receptor in the tumor cell. The first comparing step comprises comparing a first threshold value with the third parameter. The second comparing step comprises comparing a second threshold value with the fourth parameter. The judging step comprises judging the feature based on the comparison results of the first comparing step and the second comparing step. Also described is a computer program or program product executing the steps of the method.

    • An image processor includes a JPEG 2000 codec. The JPEG 2000 codec generates a plurality of levels of encoded data, and a checksum circuit integrates the encoded data for each of the levels to determine a checksum. The determined checksum is written together with the encoded data into a header of a stream. In decoding a desired level of the encoded data, a checksum is determined again on the basis of the encoded data and compared with the checksum written in the header. Accordingly, if the two matches with each other, it is concluded that the encoded data is not tampered. If the two does not match with each other, it is concluded that the encoded data is tampered and a warning message is displayed on a monitor.
