    • The present invention includes an image forming apparatus having an image forming portion that forms an image on a based on supplied image data, that can selectively execute a plurality of functions, and further comprises a storage device having a shared area for commonly storing information when executing any function among the plurality of functions, wherein when information that is due to be written in a shared area of the storage device based on an execution command of one function is already written in an area that is reserved for another function, the apparatus outputs a selection request relating to execution of the one function, and restricts utilization of the storage device with respect to a shared area for executing the one function in accordance with the selection result.

    • A compact apparatus, such as a portable telephone set, has first and second rotary dials for selecting information items such as characters to be inputted into a text, or for moving a cursor on a display screen. Each dial is provided with a click mechanism and in accordance with rotational directions and rotational amounts of the dials, a control section of the apparatus selects a desired coordinate location in a table of information items stored in a memory, and enters the information item in the selected location into a buffer memory in response to a clicking operation on the first dial. A further clicking operation on the dial initiates a information conversion mode such as a Japanese kanakanji conversion mode. In this mode, the control section searches a dictionary for one or more information items corresponding to the item in the buffer memory, and displays the corresponding information items one after another on a display screen. The control section enters an item into the text in response to a clicking operation on the second dial.

    • A portable telephone apparatus for communication with a base station through a radio telephone channel. A microprocessor controller controls operation of the apparatus in accordance with an operational program. A connector is used for connecting the apparatus to a fixedly wired telephone line through a modem. A digital signal processor processes voice signals. The operational program is partially stored in an Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM). A first Random Access Memory (RAM) temporarily stores control signals to be used for amending the operational program stored in the EEPROM. A second RAM stores a portion of the operational program which is used for controlling operation of the digital signal processor. A switch which is responsive to the controller, selectively connects the second RAM to either the controller or the digital signal processor. The second RAM is connected to the digital signal processor during a normal operational mode and to the controller in a change mode wherein the second RAM's content is changed. A battery backup supplies battery power to the second RAM. The operational program is amended in response to control signals obtained through the connector. The control signals are transmitted over the fixedly wired telephone line and received through connector.

    • An electromagnetic valve includes a housing, a plunger, a spring, and a solenoid. The housing includes a cylindrical guide member configured to assist axial movement of the plunger, a seat member assembled to the guide member with a valve hole formed therein, a stationary core arranged so as to be opposed to an end portion of the guide member at a predetermined distance away therefrom in an axial direction, and a sleeve coupled, in a liquid-tight manner, to each of an outer circumference of an end portion of the stationary core and an outer circumference of the end portion of the guide member so as to integrally couple the stationary core and the guide member to each other. The plunger has formed therein a communication hole passing through the plunger in the axial direction so as to communicate to a passage (communicating to an inlet port and an outlet port) at one end and to a receiving portion of the spring at the other end, and a path for communicating the communication hole and a space portion formed on an inner side of the sleeve at a position between the end portion of the stationary core and the end portion of the guide member. Accordingly, when the working liquid is caused to flow from the inlet port toward the outlet port, the working liquid is caused to flow into the communication hole through the path, and thus air inside the electromagnetic valve can be discharged to the outside by the working liquid flowing from the passage out of the housing.
