    • A scanner flipper oscillation frequency analyzing method, computer-readable medium, and apparatus is provided. In one embodiment, the method turns a laser off if the laser is on and receives a signal indicative of a flipper oscillation frequency. The method then compares the signal with stored parameters. Based on the comparison, the method adjusts the flipper oscillation frequency when a percentage variation between the signal and the parameters is above a predetermined value. If the flipper oscillation frequency is adjusted a Digital-to-Analog Conversion value associated with the adjustment is stored in memory. The signal received can be transition signals. In other embodiments, an apparatus and computer-readable medium is also provided which performs the similar features recited by the above method.

    • A laser beam experimentation kit, including an accessory device for modulating the intensity of the visible laser beam produced as output from a laser pointer. The accessory device comprises a printed circuit(PC) board of physically thin construction, which is adapted for slidable insertion between the conductive tip portion and the conductive housing portion of a pen-clip actuatable laser pointer. A pair of conductive pads are formed on the upper and lower surfaces of the PC board. An input signal jack is mounted on PC board for the purpose of receiving a mated plug connector that is connected to a flexible cable carrying an electrical input signal. An electronic circuit and a battery power source are also mounted on the upper surface of the PC board. The function of the electronic circuit is to respond to a predetermined signal characteristic (e.g., the amplitude, frequency or phase) of the input signal supplied to the input signal jack, and to provide a variable load between the pair of conductive pads formed on the PC board. In this way, when the PC board is slidably inserted between the conductive tip portion and the conductive housing portion of the pen-like housing of the laser pointer, the pair of conductive pads on the PC board automatically establish electrical contact therewith without problems of alignment or the like. During joint operation of the laser pointer and the accessory device, the impedance of the variable load varies in response to variations in the predetermined signal characteristic of the electrical input signal. Such variations in the impedance of the variable load automatically modify the flow of electrical current through the laser diode in the laser pointer and thus modulates the intensity of the laser beam in accordance therewith.

    • The present invention relates generally to a system and method for verifying, settling, guaranteeing and printing checks at a remote location, preferably an electronic retailer's facilities, via a network, preferably the Internet. The preferred method for verifying, settling, guaranteeing and printing checks over a network at a remote location comprises the following steps. A client computer is connected to a merchant server at a location remote from the client computer. An order is transmitted from the client computer to the merchant server. Payment by check is selected. The client computer is connected to a check server. Customer data is input to the client computer. The customer data is transmitted from the client computer to the check server. The customer data is transmitted from the check server to a check verification server. The check verification server transmits an approval, preferably comprising the customer data and a guarantee of payment to a merchant, to the client computer and the check server. The merchant server confirms the client computer's order by electronic mail message to both the client computer and the check server. The approval from the check verification server is stored in a merchant file in the check server. The merchant file is downloaded from the check server to a check printing station at the location remote from the client computer. A secure printer, preferably a magnetic ink character recognition-enabled printer, connected to the check printing station prints a check. The merchant can then cash the check as a standard bank draft.
