    • A stator unit for a torque converter includes a stator, a one-way clutch mounted radially inside the stator, and thrust bearings provided on both axial sides of the one-way clutch. The one-way clutch includes an outer ring having a peripheral wall and side walls extending radially inwardly from the respective side edges of the peripheral wall and each having a flange formed at the radially inner edge thereof, an inner ring which are in sliding contact with the flanges, and sprags disposed between the inner surface of the peripheral wall and the outer surface of the inner ring. The thrust bearings each have a stake which is pressed into one of engaging steps formed in the radially inner surface of the stator until the bearing ring of the thrust bearing is pressed against one of the side walls and one of axial end surfaces of the inner ring, thereby retaining the component parts so as to be inseparable from the stator.

    • There is disclosed a method of controlling the air-fuel ratio in which the fuel injection rate is controlled by the learning correction coefficient for obstruction of the air flow motor so as to compensate the aging of the air flow meter, and there are a plurality of learning correction coefficients allotted to the predetermined intake air flow rate regions Q.sub.1 -Q.sub.n. The intake air flow rate is measured and the judgement is made as to which region the measured flow rate belongs to. When the measured intake air flowrate is judged to be in any flowrate region other than the flowrate Q.sub.1 corresponding to the full closing of a throttle valve, the obstruction compensating learning correction coefficients FGQ.sub.2 -FGQ.sub.n allotted to all of the flowrate regions excluding the obstruction compensating learning correction coefficient FGQ.sub.1 allotted to the flow-rate region Q.sub.1 are simultaneously learned.

    • There is disclosed a control of learning correction coefficient compensating an aging of the air flow meter and a high altitude of highlands where the motor vehicle travels. A lower limit for a altitude compensating learning correction coefficient FHAC is computed by use of the altitude compensating learning correction coefficient FHAC determined during idling of the engine. A feedback correction coefficient FAF is determined such that it gets greater as the air-fuel ratio becomes smaller than the stoichiometric level of air-fuel ratio and it gets smaller as the air-fuel ratio becomes greater than the stoichiometric level of air-fuel ratio. When the mean value FAFAV1 of the feedback correction coefficient FAF is equal to the predetermined value or more, the altitude compensating learning correction coefficient FHAC is increased. Whereas, the mean value FAFAV1 is less than the predetermined value, the altitude compensating learning correction coefficient FHAC is decreased. The altitude compensating learning correction coefficient FHAC is not exceeded the lower limit therefor.
