    • A Power Line Communications (PLC) device includes a PLC interface, a wireless interface, a processing module, and memory. The PLC device communicates with a second PLC device via the PLC interface to establish a wireless transmission timing base, communicates with the second PLC device via the power mains to coordinate simultaneous wireless data transmissions to a client device from the PLC device and the second PLC device, wirelessly transmits data to the client device based upon the wireless transmission timing base and the coordination with the second PLC device. In combination the PLC devices' simultaneous wireless data transmissions may be Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) transmissions, diversity transmissions, and/or beam formed transmissions. In another operation, the PLC device characterizes its surroundings based upon concurrent directional transmission and receipt of wireless transmissions by the PLC device.

    • An analog-to-digital converter (ADC) includes a plurality of single slope ADCs, a ramp generator, and digital output circuitry. Each single slope ADC includes an analog input operable to receive an analog input signal, a ramp input operable to receive an analog ramp signal, a comparator operable to compare the analog input signal to the analog ramp signal, and an output operable to produce a digital representation of the analog input signal based upon the comparison, wherein the plurality of single slope ADCs are operable to receive analog ramp signals that are out of phase with each other. The ramp generator that is operable to generate analog ramp signals for each of the plurality of single slope ADCs. The digital output circuitry is operable to receive outputs from each of the plurality of single slope ADCs and to produce a digital representation of the analog input signal based thereupon.

    • Disclosed is a network apparatus and associated method configured to form a network of operative devices using, in a main embodiment, powerlines as the network medium. The network medium provides for communication of data between operative devices. The network apparatus comprises plural network node apparatus, each of which comprise a network connector and an operative device connector. At least one of the network node apparatus also comprises a power saving apparatus which provides less power to operative parts of the network node apparatus itself and the operative device to which the network node apparatus is attached during a second operating condition than when in a first operating condition, thereby providing for reduced power consumption in the second operating condition. The network node apparatus also comprises a processor which determines at least one quality of service requirement and to change between the first and second conditions accordingly so as to enable routing of data in accordance with the quality of service requirement, while minimizing power consumption of said network apparatus.

    • An external power supply unit (PSU) for an appliance includes rectification circuitry operable to convert an AC voltage from mains power lines to a DC voltage output, decoupling circuitry operable to decouple a broadband data signal from the mains power lines, timing circuitry operable to provide a signal representative of the mains AC voltage timing, and conveyance circuitry operable to convey the DC voltage output, a ground reference signal, the signal representative of the mains AC voltage timing, and the broadband data signal to the appliance, wherein the conveyance circuitry has no more than four conductors. The timing circuitry may be further operable to modulate the signal representative of the mains AC voltage timing onto either the DC voltage output or the broadband data signal. The timing circuitry may be a zero-crossing detector.
