    • The invention resides in winder for automatically winding sections of sheet material to form separate tubes. The winder comprises a base, a supply of sheet material and a material drive means on the base for advancing sheet material from the supply towards a station on the base located remotely thereof. A winding means is located at the station for winding a section of the sheet material about itself and about a rotational axis such that the involved section of sheet material is substantially wound in a tubular condition. A cutting means is provided and is located between the drive means and the second rotational axis for cutting the sheet material transversely of its length at points therealong corresponding to the end one section and the beginning of the next successive section to be advanced to the station. The winder further employs fastening means for applying a means to the tube created on the winding means to hold the sheet material in tubular form after the involved tube is released from its holding engagement with the winding means.

    • A system for generating a visual home exterior alert in response to a home alarm, typically audio, including a light switch override portion operationally connected to a light switch for controlling outside lighting, and a listening portion positioned to detect an alarm sound. Upon detection of a predetermined alarm sound, the listening portion is actuated to send an enabling signal to the light switch override portion. Upon receipt of the enabling signal, the light switch override portion sequentially energizes and deenergizes the outside lighting in a predetermined pattern.

    • A fiber optic sensor assembly for use on a sub-sea pipeline. The fiber optic sensor assembly is coupled to remotely located equipment by fiber optic cable(s) which extend outside of the pipeline. The fiber optic sensor assembly is affixed to a mounting point on the pipeline. The mounting point is a pipe section having an internal conduit and at least one layer that surrounds the internal conduit for protection and insulation of the internal conduit. A segment of the pipe section has a portion of such layer(s) removed or omitted to define an annular recess. When installed, the assembly has two semi-cylindrical halves that are positioned with the annular recess and coupled together to thereby surround and embrace the segment of the pipe section. The assembly houses a length of optical fiber that is coupled to at least one externally accessible fiber optic connector.
