    • Disclosed is a wavelength division multiplexed passive optical network (WDM PON) system including a central office, a remote Node, and an optical fiber coupled between the central office and the remote node, wherein the central office includes an optical power splitter coupled to the optical fiber, wherein the optical power splitter (1) divides an upstream optical signal from the optical fiber into a plurality of upstream optical signals having substantially similar power and (2) outputs downstream optical signals to the optical fiber, and a plurality of optical transceiver modules to (1) receive the plurality of upstream optical signals, and (2) output the downstream optical signals to the optical power splitter, and wherein at least one of the optical transceiver modules having an optical transmitter including a semiconductor optical amplifier and a reflection-type optical fiber grating located at a predetermined distance from the semiconductor optical amplifier, the optical transmitter transmitting light of a pre-set wavelength resonating between the SOA and reflection-type optical fiber grating; and wherein at least one of the optical transceiver modules having an optical receiver having an optical fiber grating for transmitting light of a predetermined wavelength and an optical detector for detecting light passing through the optical fiber grating.

    • A passive optical network includes a central office and a subscriber-side apparatus connected with the central office through an optical fiber link. The subscriber-side apparatus performs communication with the central office based on wavelength-division-multiplexed optical signals. The central office has a routing section, provided with first to fourth multiplexing ports, for demultiplexing multi-wavelength light inputted from the fourth multiplexing port into a plurality of channels. Each of the demultiplexed channels is amplified and multiplexed for output through the first multiplexing port. Optical signals inputted through the third multiplexing port are demultiplexed and outputted upstream. The routing section also multiplexes channels for downstream optical signals, outputting the multiplexed channels through the second port. A splitting section, provided with first to third splitting ports and arranged on a loop optical waveguide connects the first and fourth multiplexing port with each other. The splitting section causes some of multi-wavelength light inputted into the first splitting port to be outputted through the second splitting port and causes the remainder of multi-wavelength light to be outputted through the third splitting port connected with the fourth multiplexing port. A circulator causes the multi-wavelength light inputted through the second splitting port to be transmitted to the subscriber-side apparatus and causes upstream optical signals received from the subscriber-side apparatus to be outputted to the third multiplexing port.

    • A transmitting apparatus using a multiple lambda source in WDM network, which has an improved structure to minimize costs and efforts and reduce time delay that may be incurred through wavelength shift. The transmitting apparatus comprises: a multiple lambda source providing a signal with multiple wavelengths, which carries no information; a first optical circulator for transferring the signal with multiple wavelengths carrying no information, which has been transmitted from the multiple lambda sources, to multiplexer/demultiplexer, the first optical circulator transferring a multiplexed signal from the multiplexer/demultiplexer. The multiplexer/demultiplexer demultiplexes the multiple wavelength optical signal from the first optical circulator and for multiplexing optical signals of each wavelength on which information is loaded. An optical space switch for line-distributing demultiplexed signals from the multiplexer/demultiplexer to a channelization module according to each wavelength of the demultiplexed signals, and for transferring optical signals from the channelization module to the multiplexer/demultiplexer; and the channelization module for modulating line distributed optical signals from the optical space switch to generate modulated optical signals, and for transferring the modulated optical signals to the optical space switch.

    • A bi-directional optical access network is disclosed. The network includes a central office that generates a plurality of wavelength-locked downstream optical signals, multiplexes the downstream optical signals, and outputs the resultant multiplexed signal. The network also includes a remote node that demultiplexes the multiplexed signal of the downstream optical signals output from the central office, outputs the demultiplexed downstream optical signals to subscriber units, respectively, multiplexes upstream optical signals, and outputs the resultant multiplexed signal of the upstream optical signals to the central office. The subscriber units slice an associated one of the downstream optical signals to detect a portion of the associated downstream optical signal. The subscriber units generate an associated one of the upstream optical signals, which is wavelength-locked by the remaining portion of the associated downstream optical signal, and output the associated upstream optical signal to the remote node.
