    • In a coin sorting device which rolls a coin along a sorting passage and which carries out a sorting operation for the coin during movement of the coin, it is readily possible to remove unnecessary material from the sorting passage. The unnecessary material may be surface material which is separated from the coin. If the unnecessary material is left in the sorting passage, it becomes one of factors which cause an error in the sorting operation. Inasmuch as the unnecessary material can be readily removed from the sorting passage, reliability is improved as regards the sorting operation. For removing the unnecessary material, a plurality of through holes may be made to a bottom of the sorting passage. A roller member may be used at the bottom of the sorting passage instead of making the through holes.

    • An outlet device for a coin payout hopper including an outlet chute having a curved outlet chute passage for upwardly pushing coins out of an upper outlet by trailing coins pushed into a lower inlet in the horizontal direction from the coin payout hopper. The outlet chute includes an outside edge plate having an outside coin guide track positioned at the outside with respect to the center of the radius of curvature of the curved outlet chute passage with the outside coin guide track being inclined to an acute angle to a coin supporting surface of a coin supporting back plate and an inside edge plate having an inside coin guide track positioned at the inside with respect to the center of the radius of curvature of the curved outlet chute passage. The inside edge plate is covered at the lower inlet portion thereof with a flexible front plate such that a portion of the flexible front plate is extended beyond the inside coin guide track to engage outer peripheral portions of coins, thereby preventing the curved outlet chute passage from jamming by a deformed coin. Furthermore, at least one rotatable tapered guide roller having an inverted conical surface is provided at the upper outlet portion adjacent to the inside edge plate and is urged to engage the outer periphery of the coin, thereby preventing the coin from rising above the coin supporting surface of the back plate.

    • An apparatus for accepting two kinds of coins comprises a coin diameter discriminating passage unit having a coin passage adapted for discriminating diameters of coins and being openable downwards for dropping an unacceptable coin from the coin passage, a vertically extending coin returning chute arranged below the coin diameter discriminating passage unit for receiving the unacceptable coin dropped therefrom and two coin material discriminating units arranged at both sides of the coin returning chute, respectively. The coin diameter discriminating passage unit has two opposed side outlets adapted for introducing acceptable coins into the respective coin material discriminating units. Thus, the apparatus has a reduced width and thickness and a high flexibility owing to possibility of exchanging the coin diameter discriminating passage unit and/or the coin material discriminating unit for various kinds of coins.

    • A thermal printer having a main shaft supporting a carriage mounted with printing mechanisms including a printing head and an ink ribbon peeling member for peeling an ink ribbon off the recording sheet as the carriage travels, and fixedly provided with sheet feeding rollers for feeding a recording sheet. The carriage is moved along the main shaft for printing operation to print information on the recording sheet on a line. Before beginning a new line, the carriage is returned to the starting position while the main shaft is rotated to feed the recording sheet. Thus, the main shaft functions as both a guide shaft for guiding the carriage and a sheet feeding shaft for feeding the recording sheet, and thereby the construction of the thermal printer is simplified and the number of the components is reduced.
